DP flat out said that in his press conference today and mused that perhaps the answer is to give TL less freedom to make decisions in those situations. We're bashing Harrison after he got his [BLEEP] handed to him by Jones yesterday. Buckner is a damn good player as well. We need to start calling into question what this staff is doing and continues to do with drafted players. So far it feels like they struggle in developing them or playing them properly. This was after 1 game. Harrison will be fine. He’s 21 years old and currently has a hurt shoulder. He’s going to be the RT of this team for the next 10 years or more. So let’s just relax. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

See a pattern?Buckner is not an easy task to block. That's why I asked who did Harrison predominately have to contest with. To be clear, I’m not bashing Harrison. I’m trying to have a discussion about what actually happened and recognising what the coaches are actually saying about it. And what’s actually happening [This last week against KC] is that opposition teams are attacking our most inexperienced and vulnerable OL players, starting with the centre which is the lynchpin for the unit. Additionally, they attack the New Guy on the edge in order to stretch the most experienced lineman who is sandwiched between the two least experienced and tasked with assisting both. The backs need to, apparently listening to DP’s press conference, block from outside in, keeping the edge safe first and letting the guards help Fortner. Additionally, the coaches may need to simplify the schemes in order to make it easier to execute the blocking assignments. This simplification seems especially important for Fortner who appears to be overwhelmed by stunts and fails to fall off blocks effectively in response. The question about Harrison on the weekend was that Jones was consistently beating him on nearly every play and getting more effective as the game progressed. Additionally, it was apparent that KC was locking down Scherff by attacking the gap between him and Fortner. Surely the coaches were telling the offence to do something differently in response, and yet… I’m less mystified that Harrison was challenged, but more by the fact that he didn’t seem to get any help as the game went on. He was left flapping in the breeze until the end. Wow. You still don't get it. (the pressures I reported were also from PFF!!) OK This will be the last time I break this down for you, so try to keep up! You've been blathering on since middle of last year about PFF grades and ESPN win rates as if I select the ones I see fit to suit my narratives. No, that is not it. They are two different things. PFF grades can be a bit nebulous and don't always paint a clear picture of a players' game performance. For instance - go check out Zay Jones horrible grade from Sunday. I think most intelligent humans would agree that not all incompletions are created equal and he played better than a 42 might suggest. It's even more nebulous for OL. DB, and LB, but nonetheless the grades are useful. You should educate yourself and read up on everything that goes into them. This link gives the basic outline for each position. PFF used to make more detail public, but you may need to subscribe for that now. I do not. https://profootballfocussupport.zendesk....h-position- The ESPN win rates I quoted last year repeatedly have turned out to be quite accurate when looking at our OL performance currently - and they are quite a bit simpler. During a longer window of time than PFF allows - does your guy win or lose his blocking assignment? Simple. It's not a grade or a rating. It's a win or a loss. Much less room for nerdy humans to color the outcome with their opinions. Neither are a definitive authority, however. And I absolutely never said that they were. That's just some horse [BLEEP] you keep floating repeatedly. One is a grading system. One is an accumulated tally of passes and fails. The definitive authority should be your own eyes watching a replay of the all 22 - but you'd have to have some semblance of an understanding of NFL football. You aren't there yet. I'll keep rooting for you though! It's tiresome to deal with the same ignorance repeatedly. The only grade from PFF that isn't in line with all of my "narrative" as you call it- is that Bartch graded higher than what my eye test would say, but he may have had a better 2nd half than 1st. I haven't broken down the whole 2nd half focusing on OL yet. (09-18-2023, 09:20 PM)OzJohnnie Wrote:I know. I just think it goes back to last year. Playing guys like Walker, Lloyd and Fortner out of position as rookies. Fortner gets beat up on here and rightfully so but he had one year of starting experience at Center leaving Kentucky. He was mostly a LG for three to four years there. Somehow that gets glossed over. Same with Lloyd being an outside backer at Utah. Not an inside backer. Also, a fan pointed out Walker, once again, showing more disruptive force playing over the guard inside Vs. playing outside on the edge. Dempsey agreed with Fat Tony on them probably needing to put him inside. They then said well who do you put outside. Idk. Maybe Abdullah? Or, another whopper like RHH? Try anything. So far this year? Your first three picks in two weeks have been either been used minimally or not effectively. That's on coaching. That being said, I totally agree with your point. When Torrence fell to the middle of round 2, Baalke should have traded up to get him. He was originally considered a 1st round talent and getting him in the middle of round 2 would have been great value. The Jags would have likely had to give up a 4th rounder plus maybe a 6th or 7th. Hindsight is always 20-20, but Bartch was coming off an injury and Scherff gets hurt every year. Without a reliable offensive line, no team can make it to the Super Bowl regardless of how great their skill position players are. Strange is likely going to be a good tight end, but he is nothing special as a receiver. You are right! I forgot Baalke traded back. What a dumb move. Not only did he mess up pick number 2, but taking Bigsby was also a mistake. They already had Hasty and Johnson behind Etienne and a glaring weakness at the nickel. There were a plethora of corners/nickels available when they took Tank. My favorite was Clark Phillips who'd have been a definite upgrade over Herndon- although he admittedly played well yesterday. Post-PED Cam may be a lesser version of PED Cam. Didnt look very good in preseason. Gotta agree, I know that once Cam returns we have the option of pushing Little inside, but it does not address what we do at season's end when Cam is likely a cap casualty. I don't know if they expected more out of our IOL starters, which is kinda bad as a talent management concern, or if they liked certain guys and couldn't get to where they fit in the darft, or if they just plain didn't like anyone in this class. Really wish I coulda been a fly on the wall, cuz I got no idea what they were thinking.
The issues our right tackle had were rookie brain farts, then he seemed to get into his own head and did silly stuff. They needed to initially give him help but really didn't. When they finally did he set up too far inside where the help was. He would get beat outside. I do hope he learned from this....

This isn't the 90's Jaguars. That era is over. The league is very mediocre and the preseason is a joke. Teams are fools gold the first quarter of the season.
The times have changed, the rules have changed, and the league is at the highest point of parity I have ever watched. Does anyone believe there is a true dominant team in the league? The NFL is very average. Good news we are 1-1
Birth of the Franchise - November 30, 1993
Death of the Franchise - November 29, 2011 Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past. (09-19-2023, 10:11 AM)MoJagFan Wrote: This isn't the 90's Jaguars. At some point some of these teams will separate themselves from the pack. We just need to make sure we're one of the AFC's top seven. We should be able to accomplish that I think. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. Anton Harrison getting his [BLEEP] handed to him by Chris Jones was the best thing that ever happened to him.

Playing with the fire leaving him on an island like that. I am okay with testing him here and there and taking a risk to get the most out of your personnel, but, a full game, or more than 70% of the time? No thanks. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. Gotta play the best to be the best. He may lose many of the game time battles, but the tactics they use against him are going into his grey matter data base. |
