Bortles pro day

Quote:I'm sorry, but I just watched Bridgewater's tape against Miami again and nobody can tell me otherwise that's he's not the best QB in this draft.

I know it's just one game and I know it's Miami, but wow he made all the throws within the system they run and also made a few BEAUTIFUL plays that not many can make.

Bridge all day.

Quote:Former NFL quarterback Ron Jaworski of ESPN graded Bortles' pro day on a scale of 1-10.

"I give him a 10," Jaworski said. "I think he smelled a little blood in the water considering (Louisville quarterback Teddy) Bridgewater had a subpar day.

"He was well prepared and did everything right."
I have to agree with KYjaggy on this one, Jaworski is proving to be a real idiot. A 10? Really? And then to say that spitefully against Bridgewater?

Listen, I think Teddy had a 'bad day', meaning that he's better than what we saw at his pro-day. I think Bottles had an 'average day', but that's who he is. He's an average to above-average QB from UCF, who nobody was talking about in the first round until a few months ago, only after Mariotta decided to stay at Oregon, and both Bridgewater and Manziel came with 'size' concerns. I watched the entire pro-day, he reminded me of his UCF days, good arm but overall forgettable. The guy's not a 10, his pro-day wasn't a 10, his girl may be a 10, but he's a second rounder.

I want 3 players. Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel. Jaguars have the number 3 pick. Just give me one of those 3 at 3, and I'm happy.

Biff is NOT elite, franchise quarterback material. Late second to third round.

Bridgewater

Bortles

No, it was about 70. i was at the game, he overthrew alot of balls.

Now your talking about just watching tape of one game? Watch TAMU Duke....

Much more impressive.

I rolled on the floor laughing, With all those missed reads in the pocket Manziel had to improvise. If he had just stuck to the play book (or just be Teddy Bridgewater) A&M would have been in the National Title hunt late

Quote:I watched every throw of both of em, and I am bewildered as to how anyone could say Teddy was subpar and average at best, while Jaws and McShay slobber over what Bortles just did. Neither one was sharp. I would grade them both as 6/10.

Pro days deal with very little of what it takes to be an NFL QB.

Reading a defense?  No

Throwing a ball into a tight window before the receiver is even open?  No

Hanging in the pocket in the face of a pass rush and keeping your eyes downfield?   No

Leading your teammates?  No

Understanding an NFL offense?   No

Getting the team out of a bad play and into a good play by calling an audible?   No

Getting pounded into the ground by big fast nasty guys who want to hurt you and getting right back up?  No

I could go on and on...

But have you heard about his amateur scout work?  It's quite "impressive"...

There are many things it's not.

It's simply another checkmark on the report card.  Yes or no.  That's all.

It is what it is, and it's expected to be good.  It only matters if it isn't.  Then, it becomes another issue that needs addressed by the team interested in him.  Does it matter, and why/why not?  Again, that's an issue teams need to address that they wouldn't have had it been a good day.

Otherwise... good day?  Check.  Moving on...

Throwing a ball with no defender in your face? Yes

Were either of them great at it? No

I certainly hope Bortles did well, because if he did, I helps us a lot.   If he can push himself into the top 2 picks, another great player will be pushed down to us.

Why do hate UCF so much?

Are FSU qbs better? since 1996 Manuel, Ponder, Wienke, Kannel

Florida? Teblow, Leak, Grossman

ALabama? Mcelroy, Croyle, Barker

Sorry but it doesnt seem like a QB has to come from a top school to be in the NFL,

lol, I'm for the most part just joking around with Bottles's school. UCF is a fine college, I just don't think Bottles himself warrants as much talk as he's getting. If Mariotta would have left Oregon and Winston was eligible to this year, Bottles wouldn't even be in the discussion till late in the second or third round. He's the classic 'late climber'(much like Gabbert did his year). Where nobody was talking about him this time last year, or even mid-college season, but suddenly when the NFL measuring tape comes out just 2 months ago, he magically becomes better than everyone else because...because he's taller and weighs more? Manziel's and Bridgewater's gameday tape destroys Bottles, nobody can argue with that.

You're right and I agree with the QB names you listed. But it's not so much about the school as the conference it plays in(ie, level of competition). Not saying it can't or won't happen, but take some time today and study the last 10-20 years of the NFL draft, and see how long it's been since a QB from a smaller conference was taken as as the #1 quarterback overall. It happens, but its very very rare.

One thing nobody has mentioned. Blake Bortles is certainly not an elite name.

I understand what your saying and agree to an extent but don't forget Teddy is from the same canference as Bortles.

I don't think he is the top climber  I think that goes to Garrop or Murray.

My personal thought is I don't want any of these QB's til the third round and then I want the quick release and accuracy. If I had my way I would trade a late 3rd early 4th for Glennon he is just as good if not better than the cirrent crop of QB's coming out.

What exactly is a "elite" name?

Gunner Blutarsky.  A little bit of flash.  A little bit of grit.

Kind of like Gabbert back in the day...

(Not saying he is Gabbert)

ESPN needs to create some sort of buzz here.  Geno Smith was hyped up similarly, but apparently front offices didn't get the memo.  Watching him sit there waiting for some team to call his name became almost painful, especially when he was still waiting on day 2.  I have a feeling when the dust settles on this draft, most of these "top tier" guys will slip to the middle or bottom half of the first round, if not even further.

In my opinion, there really isn't an elite QB in this draft.  There are a few guys with potential to become very good, but they're all going to require time to develop.  You don't draft a QB in the top 5 of the draft with the intention of developing him.

Quote:I certainly hope Bortles did well, because if he did, I helps us a lot.   If he can push himself into the top 2 picks, another great player will be pushed down to us.

If anyone drafts Bortles at 1 or 2, they're certainly doing us a favor with the over-reach.

I think Jaworski is starting to feel irrelevant.  There's no way that performance was a 10.  Maybe a 6 or 7.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
