Trevor Lawrence: Franchise QB (TL Discussion, Merged Threads)

Love seeing Trevor clap back. Anyone who watched Clemson closely knew Trevor was a cool blooded killer. He's a top tier competitor

Good video showing this

Trevor doesn't have to throw 50 TDS a year to be elite. Score TDS, win games running backs can get TDS too not just Trevor. Etienne has 7 TDS done teams don't even get 10 rushing TDS in a year.

He’s going to have plenty of games where he throws multiple tds. However, rushing touch downs by the offense are just as good.

Uh, sorry sweetie, but he doesn't have 4 touchdown games every week, he isn't elite. Game manager at best.

I mean, he's not elite(yet). Trev is efficient, moves the ball, let's the run game carry the offense. He can be a good QB, it's OK, game manager should not be a pejorative. There's only 3-5 truly elite QBs in this league and he's just not one of them right now. I'd put him somewhere between top 10-12, still a good QB, but when I think of truly great QBs right now he's just not the name I would blurt out. Let's remember this guy was compared to the likes of Andrew Luck(40 TDS in year 3 with a terribad team he was drafted to), a "generational talent", in which if you asked me TL has not lived up to those metrics at the pro level yet. The good news is it's only year 2 1/2, still plenty of time left to elevate his game this season.

Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Lamar, Purdy, and Tua I would argue are flat out better, Herbert is debatable but he seems to not have a clutch bone in his body... You also can't dismiss C.J. Stroud, he's really showing some promise/growth and I would argue is having a better season than TL so far. I would even argue guys like Goff and Cousins are better right now, but they're much older so bid deal. IMO Trevor is not a guy to carry a team when the defense is having a bad day and the run game is shut down. Guys like Mahomes, Allen, and Burrow have proven they can. When he can carry a team, I will call him elite with a giant smile on my face. He's just not there yet.

TLDR -  It's still tremendous to have a top 10-12 QB in the NFL, I get we all love the team and definitely have biases when we rate our own guys, but the statistics don't lie. Trev's a slightly above average QB right now AND THAT IS OKAY! We can win titles with that, given the Jags run game and defense are playing well.

Purdy?!

AHAHAHAHA

Yikes. Not all hot takes are hot.

Do you honestly believe this team would be better with Purdy? Or that the 49ers would be worse with Trevor?

I just don't know where to even start with that. Purdy? Stroud? COUSINS?!!!

I love the fact that Trevor never gets an credit that he's beaten teams with Allen, Lamar, Herbert, but obviously they are better. Have the same or worse records but obviously better.

I think you'll also find all those other QB's you listed, except Purdy who has McCaffrey don't have a run game that gets TD's and points. That's a good thing to have and shouldn't count against you. The fact that Lawrence cab hurt you deep is why teams have to play the deep ball. That's why for years every team stacked the box against us.

'Slightly above average QB right now'.....wow. just wow.

There were multiple games last year where the defense folded at crunch time and Trevor willed us to victory. So that’s not a valid criticism either

Hypothetical: The Jags send a straight up swap of Trev for Purdy offer. What do the 49ers do? (most of us know)

The real question should be how good thos numbers are compared to others.

Take for exmple, Tua, Burrow, Allen, Herbert. Then Goff and Cousins. How many of them are better than Trevor?

Obviously stats aren't everything but let's start there.

Trevor is 10th in passing yds this season in case you didn't know.

The only number that really matters to me is wins. Lawrence is still ascending though. We don't really know where his ceiling is at yet because this front office still has to improve a few things offensively for him along the interior. He'll also get better as long as Pederson is the coach here and they work on process improvements, game planning and situational football.

Allen and Burrow are capped out already in my opinion. As is Goff, Cousins and even Herbert. I think we all know what we have in those guys already. Allen doesn't seem like he'll ever change. Cousins is towards the end of his career. Goff is having his Alex Smith story arc of his career. Tagovailoa has to stay healthy. Burrow has to start carrying his team since his contract dictates that.

I wouldn't take any of those guys over Lawrence right now. None of them.

Sure, but do you agree that Trevor is probably around 10th among quarterbacks - right now?
