Bridgewater just proved what half this board already knows.  He can't spin it.  The guy is a soft tosser that is only good between 0-10 yards.  He is garbage outside of 10 yards.

 

Percent of Passes either Screens or less than 5 yards ------

 

46% for Manziels with 22% of that being screens.

 

41% for Bridgewater with only 9% of them being screens so yeah he does throws alot of 1-5 yard passes but very few screens unlike Manziel/Carr/Bortles.

 

47% for Bortles with 22% being screens.

 

59% (good lord) for Carr with a whopping 33% of them being screens.

 

Of the 4 Bridgewater has the second highest percentage of pass going 20+ yards with 14%. Bortles only has 11% same with Carr. To me this is impressive in that he doesnt haev the evasion ability of Manziel to run around and them heave up a ball to an open WR once the D breaks down. He actually moves in the pocket to buy time.

 

Bridgewater does his work in the 5-15 yard range with very little screens suggesting he doesnt rely on YAC nearly as much as the other prospects. And while Manziel does throws the highest percent of passes in the 20+ Range this comes from his improv ability and not from reading progressions and standing in the pocket. RG3 had a high percent of downfield passes at Baylor due to this as well but quickly learned the NFL doesnt play that game. Same with Vick at VT actually.

he had a bad pro day. i say big deal. give me the guy who on 3rd down with a linebacker in his face on a blitz hits the open man and moves the chains. thats teddy. pressure in his face and he makes the play. i dont care if in shorts and a tee he looks a little off. any time this guy is in the game, even more so when the game is on the line teddy puts the team on his back and always comes up big.

Actually, it makes it look like he dumps the ball off a lot when given a play that could go down field.

In regards to these numbers, one thing to take notice on is that screens are designed calls. The QB doesn't have control over that play.


So if you remove the 5 yard passes that were designed screens, comparing the numbers to all 4 QB's, Bridgewater is a checkdown king.

First this presumes Bridgewater's stock actually drops in the Jaguars eyes as a result of the Pro Day, and cannot be restored in an individual workout. Secondly it also presumes the team does not otherwise benefit by having the third overall pick even if Bridgewater's stock drops. I submit there are players that could help this team at 3 that would not likely be available later.

Keep in mind, EVERY TEAM was represented at his workout!  How many of the Jaguars' brass were there?  Bradley?  Caldwell?  Who else?  That sort of attendance wouldn't happen for a lowly rated guy.

Being a checkdown king isnt always a terrible thing.  Remember Tom Brady checked us down to the tune of like 27-28 comp-att in a playoff game.  but then again we only rushed 3 dropped 8 in coverage and dared him to do just that.

 

The fact Teddy is doing that in college, in a weak conference, is a bit of a concern though.
