Trevor Lawrence: Franchise QB (TL Discussion, Merged Threads)

From their perspective he’s too white and from the franchise in the city they think should have never had a franchise. They overlook that Buffalo, Cinci, Green Bay, etc. are small markets in less desirable places and that the Chargers are a homeless team nobody wants.

As far as CJ goes, he caught a lot of attention for playing as well as he has as a rookie. There’s a lot to like about him if he weren’t in our division. I wish the Falcons could have gotten him. He’s confident and an accurate passer. And he’s a good character kid.

Trevor gets a TON of respect and acclaim from the media.

Stroud is new, and he's already really good, and that's why the media are fawning over him.  As they should.  Because he looks like he could be really great.  It has nothing to do with anything else.  He's the latest new thing, and that's why he's getting a lot of attention.

Watch the broadcasts. It's never opening with discussion of Trevor, the team in control of the division, or anything like that. They open with the other stuff and someone interjects Trevor or the Jags into the conversation, like a "don't forget about these guys too" kinda garbage.

Even the last game, near career high for Trevor if not new mark, set a mark for most 40+ yard completions in a game, yet the immediate analysis was a slurp-fest of Fields.

In the end it doesn't matter, it's just nice when you don't have to beg for (earned) regard. At the moment, the Jags were the top seed in the AFC, and the conversation centered on the losing team. Just goofballs.

Glory be!!

Maybe the O-Line wasn't actually the problem after all...  Hmmmm....  Let's consider that!

And besides, it seems a little silly to be complaining about the coaching when we're 8-3 and leading our division.

Yeah...  I don't buy that at all...  Agree to disagree...

If you honestly think that Press was calling plays last year in the 2nd half, then why were the play calling for the first 8 games so different from last year?  The fact that we all of a sudden decided it was a great idea to run ETN up the middle constantly this year, when we never did that sort of thing last year makes me think that Pederson is just trying to get Press a HC gig.

I watched ever play of every game last year and same with this year.

The last 5 games have looked similar to last year.  The first 8 were absolutely nothing like how we ran the offense last year.  But I've actually broken that down before.  It's buried in one of these 100+ page threads...

Deciding that you think Doug Pederson looked at a camera and lied to anyone who would listen about Press Taylor's involvement in 2022 isn't "agreeing to disagree."
That is you inventing an alternate reality to suit your narrative.

Did he look into a camera???  I've watched at least 30 Doug Pederson press conferences, and at not time did I ever see him look directly into any camera...  LOL

And bro, I get it, it's important to take every word as truth.  But, I'm sorry to inform you, that there is something called "coach speak".

"Coach Speak" is the term most people that understand how the NFL works describe a statement made by a HC that isn't actually factual, and most likely not entirely a lie...  Though, because there is no follow up, the lie is never pointed out.

It's difficult for those that don't understand how PR (PR means "Public Relations") works to realize that certain statements are not actually the truth.  And yet most people understand that "Coach Speak" is a real thing.

I'm sorry if you don't believe it.  But, in my opinion, it's pretty obvious that coaches don't always tell the truth.

PS Trevor Lawrence is a great QB

Coaches do not always tell the truth.
What a revelation.
Pederson had zero reason to lie about this.
He didn't need to justify his decision to let his OC call plays to anyone. It is his prerogative.
He offered the information freely.
That isn't coach speak.

When he says Luke Fortner is doing a good job he is  "coach speak lying" because he doesn't have a better option to put out there and he isn't going to throw a struggling kid under the bus.
Completely different situation from freely offering info on how they ran the offense last year.

I thought this wasn't the correct thread to discuss this???  You're confusing me...  Is it appropriate to have this discussion here or do I need to go somewhere else??

Please go somewhere else with your delusional tripe

So the head coach is giving play calling duties to the OC rather than doing what is best for the team?

Sounds completely logical to me.

I was listening to a sports talk show on the radio here in houston and one of the hosts were giving fair analysis on the game but they were being really rude about the jags. One of the guys called Trevor 'horse face'.....seriously?

Well now, one of two things. It was too soon for him to be on the radio as the butt-hurt had not yet worn off OR Trevor is now officially living rent free in his head.

It's amazing to me the mole hills some people around here will stake their flag in and defend to the death. It just happens over and over again and more so on the stuff we have very little actual insight and info on.

Not sure why some on here are suprized at the Texans leading the description of the game with the Jags just getting the obligatory mention as the winner in the media. Houston is the 4th largest city in the nation. It's a numbers game. The only way we can overcome is to just keep winning.

And BTW, that was a franchise QB performance by our QB on Sunday.

My wife has made the same comments in the past, and she likes him.

Kinda sad when that's all they got.

It's no fivehead, that's for sure.

Yesterday I thought I'd find some old Bortles era Jags highlights on YouTube ( yes we do get YouTube here!!).

I forgot the fear for those 2 seconds once the ball left his hand, wondering where it would go. The camera panning up the field was almost horror movie levels of suspense.

Watching Trevor, it's so easy and so quickly you see just how good he is. So much natural talent and has such a great QB mindset. Never gets too high, never too low. I just feel so lucky to spend the next 15 seasons watching him play for us and knowing we won't be searching for a Lawrence for some time. We know how hard that can be.

Difference between bortles and Trevor is of course the floor. But bortles when he had a pick you knew 3 more were coming and he'd never get out of the Funk.

Trevor has turnovers and he fights back to win games srill

What talk of "third-year demise" has there been? I haven't seen much of that. Locally nor nationally. Just curious where that's coming from. Now, as far as whether or not he's a game manager Vs. franchise QB? Sure, plenty of that nonsense all year. But, I never saw "doom and gloom" or "demise" mentioned with Lawrence this year.

Exactly!! You'd never know where it could end up. If we could have extended the endzone to the 5th row of the stands he would have been amazing.
