Ok Teddy I am impressed with your Football IQ

He can't work out more? I thought more muscle would give more strength.

That was pretty impressive regardless of the prospect....

I still don't think he is worth #3, but I am not as opposed to it.
Impressive stuff, most these college QBs go to the line then look at the sidelines and get the play changes from the coaches, this kid is way ahead of the curve, not only is he talented he is also smart.

All that other crap people are trying to pick him apart on is so small, this kid is gonna be ready to start day one, passing on him will be a huge mistake

It's really not that easy.  As someone mentioned earlier.  Why didn't Chad Pennington just workout more?

Quote:I really don't think anyone is questioning the intelligence here.  The guy has a great football IQ.  I think there are legitimate concerns about how durable he'll be at the next level.  I think there are also worries about how his passing ability translates to a bigger, faster brand of football in the NFL.  I think he's got the potential to be a good starting QB, but I'm still not buying into the hype some here keep stoking about him being worthy of the #3 pick.  I'm just not seeing it.

Now, I DO think if we draft him at #3 that the team should immediately make it clear Henne remains the starter, and we let Bridgewater (or any QB we wind up with for that matter) develop for as long as it takes.  I don't want to see them rushing anyone into that position before they're ready.  I think a smart guy like Bridgewater can probably assume the starting role during his rookie year, but I'd prefer it not happen right away just to allow him time to develop.

It's interesting.  I was listening to Lageman talking about how thin his ankles are.  It doesn't equate to durability one way or the other, but it is always something you worry about.  He's got a pretty slight build.  But, I always thought the same thing about Mark Brunell.  When I'd see him out there during training camp, I was always surprised by how small he actually was in comparison to a guy like David Garrard who was thick from his neck to his cleats.  Same thing for Quinn Gray.  Mark had spindly legs in comparison to Garrard.  Leftwich was the same way.  But, Brunell was fairly durable, and Leftwich wasn't, so while there's a concern with Bridgewater over his durability, it's not a given that he'll be fragile at the next level.

Honestly, if the team drafted him, I'd be fine with it.  I think any team that lands him is going to be getting a smart QB who understands the game, and can think quickly on his feet.  What he lacks in some areas, he more than makes up for with his football IQ.
That's the thing though with football I.Q, intangibles, and then the physical make-up of a QB though. Bridgewater, just from reading your thoughts on him, yes, he's a sharp tack, but is he an elite QB prospect? I can't say he is. Luck had it all coming out of college. I.Q, Size, Arm, and durability. That's not to say that, given the right situation and circumstances, that, he couldn't develop into an Elite QB in the NFL. I just feel like right now, he reminds me of Chad Pennington a bit coming out of college. He's "okay", just not "great", and, if he gets time to develop, he could be a winner. But if he doesn't, he could fail quickly.

Arm Strength, Accuracy, Pocket Presence, and Mobility are all traits QBs have had that busted in the NFL. Does that mean you can't count on those necessarily translating? Oh.

Quote:I like Teddy.  His pro day was an outlier in my opinion.  He might have just had a bad day or whatever.  He might be a gamer.  Which is fine.

I also have to add that Byron Leftwhich was one of the smartest QBs that I have ever seen.
Teddys pro day might drop him to the second for us. He would be a good get there..

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

His Pro Day means nothing. He's not falling out of the Top 10.

Tom Brady did, so it can be done/

We will see. It wouldn't shock me with all the talk floating around about the big 3, if only one of them ended up going top 10. Everyone wants Luck type pick with the top 10. And how do you pass up what looks to be surefire awesome prospects in Clowney and Watkins for a QB missing a few things from his checklist? Not sure I could do it.

I think NFL will always err towards the prototypical when drafting. I look at guys like Geno Smith and E.J. Manuel and I don't understand how E.J. jumped up, other than he had all the measurable's. Teddy isn't 6'5" with a great arm and a large frame. If he was, I am sure he would be a #1 guy, but as is, I think you have a hard time passing on someone like Clowney (who is elite on all measurable's) to get Teddy (who has a high floor but questionable ceiling). Plus drafting a bad QB is the quickest way to get fired. If it was my job on the line. I pick Clowney or Watkins every time. Yeah it might stink if Teddy was decent, but if I got an elite reciever or passrusher its not so bad. And if I had drafted Teddy and he turns out to be a game manager/backup type I am fired.

And if you end up passing on that Franchise QB for a player who doesn't turn out as good, you also get fired. It can go both ways.

The Pro Days don't really mean jack. When was the last time somebody won a game from their Pro Day? They just want to see the QBs throw the ball at the Pro day/Combine. They want to see the throwing motion up close, footwork, how they react with/around their guys, interviews etc. There's a reason why stats aren't kept at pro days and nobody is going to dramatically fall because of their pro day. It's always going to go back to the hours and hours of game film.

Well, there is the point of physical limitation. Arm strength will develop as the body grows and develops muscle mass which a male in their early 20's still has room to do. Granted, it won't jump precipitously but arm strength will grow as the person grows.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Just watched the gruden qb camp segment with Teddy. This kid just lights up when you start talking x's and o's. I like that.

I saw that earlier today as well. It was by far the most impressive one I've seen.

Gruden just sat back and relaxed in his chair with that "Okay kid you got it" grin on his face.

Byron also played in a shotgun offense in college and had very little experience dropping back. He also had zero pocket presence. Not so much like Blaine who senses phantom pressure, because Byron did sense pressure. The problem was that rather than stepping up/stepping to the side of the pressure, Byron just stands tall and waits for the last possible second before throwing it..usually causing him to take a vicious hit.

You give Byron the pocket movement of Bridgewater and even with that wind-up motion he probably ends up a very good QB.

Chad Pennington had injuries that weakened his already average arm strength.

Drew Brees' arm got stronger after he left San Diego. Aaron Rodgers' arm got stronger from his college days. Tom Brady's arm is noticeably stronger than it was at Michigan.

Arm strength can be improved, be it from mechanics or from a physical standpoint. Bridgewater's mechanics on deep throws can be improved. Physically, he has slight room to add more strength though you'll never compare him to a Cam Newton. Regardless, he has enough arm strength to make the kind of throws that you need him to make.

Best part is that Gruden tried to catch him by throwing a different defense and different look (tampa 2, which would have eaten up the offense where Teddy wanted to go initially) and Teddy didn't even flinch. He just goes right back to the board and goes oh we see that look, we just hit the defense here.

I don't see the big deal.  Pointing to the mike LB is standard pre snap procedure in the NFL.  Even Meester would point to the Mike LB at pre snap.
