Colts owner arrested...

Quote:The man has a personal problem. Why should the team be punished for that? Justin Blackmon also has a personal problem but his suspension also hurts the team. Why should this be any different? Quote:Umm, I didn't say Irsay being a train wreck was weird, did I? Maybe you should learn to read. The difference between Aldon and Irsay is that little word: felony. He may get suspended for the rest of the year. Probably would be best for him to step away to clean himself up (and scuttle his twitter account while he is at it). His daughter can run the team in his absence.
Only a chump boos the home team!

He should focus on his health and let his daughters run the franchise. Quote:The man has a personal problem. Why should the team be punished for that? Because players are punished by the owners for doing this same thing. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Agreed. Quote:Its not a health issue. It a [BLEEP] issue. You seriously have no idea what you're talking about...
Pain killers are much harder to get off of than pretty much any drug except heroin. Which is one of the main reasons that type of extracurricular "high" has never been appealing to me. Getting off that junk is a health issue. The fact that he painted himself into that corner is a [BLEEP] issue. To paraphrase Mitch Hedberg, addiction is the only disease where people get on your case and call you names. Nobody gets called out for having lupus.

Quote:Sorry its not a "DISEASE" Substance abuse is a psych disorder. Psych disorders affect your health. I deal with this stuff on a daily basis.
I would never criticize the dude for having a prescription drug problem. It's no joke, and I've watched it wreck people's lives.
That shirt, however, is not the result of his mental illness. It's probably the result of someone's mental illness, but not his.
Quote:Substance abuse is a psych disorder.OK. I don't disagree with you on that, but I would still like to know why/if you feel that the team should be penalized when a player has an issue (Blackmon) but not when an owner does (Irsay). Seems to me that if anything the owner should be held to a higher standard.
Now reports are out that he had $29k in cash on him when he was arrested.
Dude rolls hard!
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Irsay needs help, and hopefully he gets that in rehab.
The league has a system in place to penalize teams for player misbehavior. There are even mechanisms to deal with coaches who get out of line. There should be some sort of accountability for owners, especially when the run afoul of the law in the manner Irsay did with this incident. As protective of the shield as this commissioner is, I'm sure there will be some sort of penalty, although I don't think it will be anything more than a public apology and some act of contrition aimed at a charity supported by the league. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Seems to me that if anything the owner should be held to a higher standard. Should the team be penalized as in what? Losing draft picks? That's absurd. Being fined? Maybe. Should Irsay be suspended? Maybe. The last two I can see as reasonable, however losing draft picks is ridiculous. Still doesn't make sense that Aldon Smith, who actually got in an accident, wasn't punished, but Irsay will be? I don't care what any of you say, that's not right IMO.
Tomlin almost cost PITT a draft pick for being on the field during a play. The higher up the ladder you go, the greater the consequences could be. I don't think any picks will be taken, but I am not putting anything past Goodell.

Quote:Should the team be penalized as in what? Losing draft picks? That's absurd. Being fined? Maybe. Should Irsay be suspended? Maybe. But that's the rub isn't it? Suspending an owner has little or no impact on the team's ability to play/win a game while suspending a player has a huge impact on that ability. How do you make the penalties even close to equivalent? A draft pick is one way. What other way do you see as a possibility? Fining or suspending the owner has nowhere near the same impact as suspending a player. Again, the owner should be held to a higher standard and the punishment should have at LEAST as much impact as punishing a player would have on the team, not less. Fining or suspending the owner has nowhere near the same impact as suspending a player. You make a very good point when it comes to equivalence. I can't think of a way to meet in the middle. Draft pick is too severe IMO. However, my point still stands as Aldon wasn't punished for actually getting in an accident, but Irsay will be? Even if owners should be held to a higher standard, the professional players should at least pay some price for it as well. Quote:You make a very good point when it comes to equivalence.
