I think Garoppolo is the guy.

Dalton is being discussed on ESPN right now. It seems they aren't "happy" with his development?

Go figure???

Because we know for a fact the only reason Aaron Rogers is good is because he sat for a few years?

I really like how married his throws are to his feet.  he moves his feet so quickly and almost always seems in good position to throw.  Too bad he seems like a lock for the 2nd round now.

From a pure value standpoint, I'd rather have Garop in the 3rd than than any of the top prospects w/ the 3rd overall.

His quick twitch is his plus trait, this is true. The rest of the package across the board is just average though, and his pocket presense is just as bad or worse than Carr's. I liked him as a day 2 pick for a while, but after watching him further I'd be really surprised if he surpasses QB purgatory status so I'd have to pass.

Im worried Manziel is Doug Flutie with more baggage, Bortles is a bigger Andy Dalton, and Teddy is Alex Smith.  If so, if you made me pick one, I'd take Teddy/Alex Smith because around the right talent, he can lead you to the playoffs but I think the ceiling is limited.  And I dont think you need to use the 3rd pick to get an Alex Smith.  Not sure I think Garop's ceiling is all that great, however if we can nab him a few rounds later, that sounds much more appealing.

Matt Waldman, who I think does a pretty good job with his RSP, was not very kind to Garoppolo in a recent podcast. He said he sees major ghosts in the pocket and I'm pretty sure it was Garoppolo that he directly compared to Gabbert, pocket prescience-wise.

Quote:He did get a shot in training camp and in the preseason and he was brutally awful. Much worse than Henne or Gabbert.
Wrong, as usual. He got limited reps in both TC and preseason, I not only went to every open TC I also went to both home preseason games. The kid showed promise when he got a shot, but was very limited. Gabbert and Henne looked awful in preseason, much worse than Scott.

Garrappolo has some nice tools but he is too limited at this time and I just don't think he is right for the franchise at this time. If he was available at the top of the 4th, I'd jump on him as that #2 QB we "may possibly" draft. Otherwise, I don't think the value is right for us.

He showed no promise at all. You are just making stuff up. He was brutally awful.

Harbaugh and O'Brien seem interested in Garoppolo.

Quote:he was working out at Northwestern’s pro day under the watchful eye of Texans coach Bill O’Brien, according to multiple reports. Also, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh put him through a private workout while there.

Not surprised, Harbaugh is a pretty good qb evaluator and I won't be surprised if they let Kaep walk

I'd rather let Harbaugh walk.

No, you're wrong.  Again.

Scott was 18 for 40, for 170 yds 0 TDs and 1 INT in four games.

That's two more games than Gabbert played in, and his attempts were second only to Henne.

Gabbert (two games, and one being really, REALLY bad...)

18/26 184 1 1

Henne (4 games)

29/49 279 2 3

Matt Slingshot Scott (4 games)

18/40 170 0 1

The reason you didn't remember him playing, is probably because he was constantly three and out.

Kaep wants WAY too much money. He has a good game every now and then, but he is not an 18 mil a year QB

QBs take teams hostage this days, the difference they bring to teams make them ask those salaries. The Niners could be the only team that can survive letting Kaepernick go, though (with maybe the Bengals).

I am beginning to agree with the OP. With the recent comments about taking a look at Seattle and how they did it, the fact that we have been already following some of Seattle's strategy for the past year, the brass has been saying they are comfortable saying henne is the guy going into next season,  and I just read an article on the jaguars facebook page about how they believe that all the top QBs this draft are going to be a bit of a project, I am getting the feeling that a guy like Garoppolo could wind up being the mark. He has all the intangibles and is just about prototypical qb size, real quick release, the only knock ive seen is that his footwork needs some work and that is where the project part comes into play. Garoppolo is probably going to need a season to work on some things and get used to the better competition that he played at eastern illinois. i would be on board.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Gabbert had a quick release too.

Ouch.  I hate to hear this.

If we don't take a QB in round 1, which I'm pretty convinced won't happen now (unless we trade up to #1 for Bortles, LOL), I don't see where we get one.  Go down the list.  They all have their warts.

Maybe Brett Smith or Aaron Murray in the 4th or 5th.  Franchise guy not coming this year looks like.

Man I wish we would have just stayed put and taken Kapernick at #16 in 2011.  Curse you Gene Smith!

He wrote an article with some video examples if you'd like to check it out. Definitely shows dome red flags in his game.

It's true. People on here love to bash Carr for being Gabbert 2.0, but if you really need to label someone Gabbert 2.0 in this draft it is way moreso Garoppolo. Carr get anxious and rushes things, but he isn't scared and he at least senses it right even thought he doesn't deal with it right yet. Garoppolo straight up sees phantom pressure and reacts in similar to Blaine fashion.

I had not heard/saw that about Garoppolo.  Definitely don't want him then, even to develop.  Made me sick to watch Gabbert constantly duck at phantom pressure like a turtle pulling his head into his shell.

It's a long but informative read.
