I would extend him but would really feel better to see how he comes back from injury, he has to play up to his potential more often. Too careless with the ball sometimes and when it costs the team it really sucks. Really streaky player that goes into lulls.

Not sure what that means... I'm just saying we don't need to rush to give Lawrence a contract until we need to give him the contract. 
I'm guessing you mean they could do some contract gymnastics? But if I put my GM cap on 41 is priority, then figuring out what to do with Rid, then OL then Trev.

Extending Lawrence doesn't hurt the team in the short term. It can actually help them by giving them some flexibility to sign more Oline help.

I think the narrative around giving Lawrence an extension is that it would cripple the cap and that's just not the case next year. Sign Allen to his rightful contract. Sign Lawrence to his contract. 

This locks up 2 critical positions on the Jags but also doesn't hurt them financially in the short term to continue adding pieces.

Yeah I suppose Khan can use cash bonuses to offset cap hits. I'm no cap guru. Hell I barely understand half of it. Heard a bit of chatter about more wealthy owners being able to circumvent the salary cap.
If they can do it now I'm okay with it. People worried about paying Trevor based on a few bad games playing through a lot of stuff are being silly for sure.
If we can pay him, 41, and address OL, do it.

Lock him up long term, especially after waiting 15 years for a true #1 QB.

That said, over the past 3 years my $91 ticket is now priced at $150 heading into next year so I'm not so certain how much I'm willing to spend if these increases continue as my gameday setup at home (during away games) includes the following:

Temp: 70 degrees
Parking: free parking in the driveway
Beer:  $12 for a 6-pack
Food: grilled food made to order
Fans: no opposing fans annoying me
Duration:  Arrive at 12:55pm and am home at 4:00pm

I don't think Trevor or his agent will be looking for a long term deal after this season.

I think they would rather negotiate a long term contract after having a better season.

That said, if Trevor makes the post season and leads the Jags to an AFC championship, I think they will feel like they have the leverage to make a long term deal that will command an elite contract.

Otherwise, I think they will bet on him having a better season next year and then have more leverage to get a better deal.

We have a lot of money sunk into some underwhelming players (Smoot, Hamilton, Zay Jones, Scherff). I think Hamilton will be better next year when he's over his back issue. Zay is decent when fully available. We signed Smoot out of desperation I feel like. Scherff only looks good due to the bad play of the rest of the interior players. If we pay Josh Allen we're going to have to free money up or we can't really do much to get better.

That part and if I'm Trevor Lawrence agent I would rattle off these names: Blake Bortles, Chad Henne, Nick Foles, and Blaine Gabbert and then hang up the phone in their face.

There's no need to rush, and as of now, I wouldn't offer a "market reset" type of contract. But will he get a mega contract? Oh yeah. Sure, he leads the league in turnovers, but he has also shown he is more than capable of running the offense, can take control of games, has won playoff games, made a ton of big time throws, improved each season (including this year, except those injuries have certainly hindered his play so the stats don't necessarily show improvement), is still very young, and is a vocal leader. Also, not resigning him puts the jags..... Where, exactly? Back at 3 win seasons while the front office throws a bag at the next Nick Foles? No thank you. It wasn't fun then, and it wouldn't be fun this time around either. He's the best option they currently have, and will remain the best option for quite a while. And honestly, that is not at all a bad thing. Even with his turnovers, he is at worst on the high end of mid-tier QBs. 10-15 is his floor in this league for the next decade, and you don't let those QBs go elsewhere.

A little Dramatic? You paint him as the godfather. The team has him locked up for at least another couple of years so right now be has 0 leverage. The only thing be could do is hold out or retire if he chooses not to suit up.
