There is no evidence to confirm what the Malaysian Authorities are now saying. Until something physical is located to back up their claim, it's not a certainty. I am certainly not signing off on that explanation. Give me a piece of wreckage, or at least a definitive photo of it, and I may start believing it.

No way. There are too many navigational backups. They have a simple compass in every aircraft. Also, there is something known as celestial navigation, which all pilots learn.

there is a theory out there that is somewhat similar, yes. 

 

Electrical fires can be partially extinguished by climbing to an altitude low in oxygen.  People could/would lose consciousness if unprepared or O2 masks/system  malfunctioned.

Large modern commercial aircraft automatically deploy oxygen masks for the pilots in the event of decompression.  I don't know if Stewart's small private plane had the same contingency.  Probably not.
