Jags to Hire Nielsen (Merged Threads)

As some have been alluding to - Nielsen may or may not want to give Campbell/Williiams too many man coverage snaps, or he may insist upon it.

There are two options - adjust his scheme to fit his new personnel - adjust the personnel to fit his scheme.

The likely outcome is something in between, but I do think this means we are going to see the Jags target at least one man covering corner rather than just roll with what we've got. No idea if he'll try to trade a CB away - try to incorporate them somehow - or try to coach them up into playing 50% man coverage and keep both outside CBs in place.

Still find it weird that this board is so anti new threads and instead just merges things.

4-3 sounds good to me if they do this. Be interesting to see who the 3rd LB will be and how the secondary will look. I dont see Jenkins returning. Maybe more Antonio Johnson? And CB will be looked at too. Williams may be a cap cut.

We have like 19 linebackers rostered  - but the most likely competition for the 3rd spot will be Muma vs Miller if the latter is healthy enough to compete.

We don't need 4 threads of the same topic.

If Allen and Walker are to become 4-3 DE's, I don't think our LB depth chart looks all that egregious.  I was originally thinking someone from our LB corp would become trade bait, but maybe not.

I was making a joke about drafting Muma when we had 2 ILBs and then doing it again the following draft with Miller.

Spending that capital to have 4 ILBs on this roster is kinda silly while we were running a 3-4.  (Muma a third rd pick, Miller a 4th round pick)

We'll still have 2 ILBs and a nickel on the field the majority of the time, but hopefully one of Baalke's redundancies can give Nielsen the three LB starters he needs in a 4-3 base.

So amazing to have used a lot of money, a 1st round pick, a 3rd round pick and a 4th round pick in 2 straight seasons on off ball linebackers.... Brilliant!

He did this while losing arguably their best player in Grady Jarrett early in the season

3Tech- Hamilton. Gotta be him since he got a fat new contract
DT/NT- Maybe Fatukasi or FA
SS- Antonio? Rayshawn gone.
Nickel- FA or rookie

This is the problem every time. It is hard to switch. I hope we fix the offense and can average 35 points because it could be ugly.

I think those players were left blank because change is very possible.

Hamilton never got anywhere near 100% after the injury - so his return will depend on health.

Fatukasi underperformed vs the run down the stretch for what he's making

SS - who knows how the New DC will see him - may like AJ at nickel? May want a serious thumper at SS - May love Johnson there

Nickel - I'd think that if they are transitioning to a more man based approach - acquiring a new nickel with the right traits might be a priority - and could eventually move outside if one of the current outside guys doesn't last in the new scheme
(draft a man covering CB who plays nickel in year one and outside in year two if D-Will and or Campbell don't adapt to the new scheme)

Hamilton is such a bummer because Shipley said he was the best player in camp. Totally dominant.

I can't see them moving on from him because of his contract.

I'm ok with moving on from Fatuklasi and Rayshawn.

Among areas the #Falcons improved:

—26th to 7th in yards per play allowed

—31st to 3rd in 3rd down defense

—25th to 8th in pass defense

Looks like the Nielson Ratings were up in Atlanta.

Context: Dominant against Fortner and guys worse than Fortner.

This is another reason I want walker as a 3 tech, at least on 3rd and longs... Can you imagine the opposing LT/LG seeing those two (Allen/Walker) lined up side by side? Then rotate in a pass rush guy @ RDE. Yeesh! I am really excited to see how our defense shapes up this off season.
