If he's sitting there on the board at pick 17, and, your scouting department, your value board and your coaching staff has come to conclusion, that, he's on par with guys like Jason Kelce, Kevin Mawae, Alex Mack or Travis Frederick, it's an easy decision for me. You take him and you don't lose any sleep over it. You're addressing THE weakest starting point on the entire active roster with an All-Pro caliber player. Yep. I agree with this and we have the same ideas aligned. It's a lot easier to look at a proven commodity, throw a good chunk of money their way and get quicker results for said investments. Relying on the draft in April is too risky for a team that's barely scraped by for the last two years. It's absolutely crucial they knock this off season out of the park. It does start with the interior on both sides. It's glaringly obvious now to the fanbase and pundits and anything short of what you're looking for is going to leave a serious cloud of doubt going into training camp this year if they don't address it. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Unfortunately, your draft is an example of how unrealistic these mock simulations are. First of all, no way JPJ makes it out of Round 1 after his week at the Senior Bowl. Also, no way we'd be able to get such high future draft picks by trading back. The 17th pick will have some very good future pros available, but none worth relinquishing such high picks for. The only guy I see teams trading up for at a great price might be J.J. McCarthy. He is currently the hot quarterback rising in many mocks to the 1st round. Am I the only one who thinks Verse is the most underrated prospect this year? My top 17 prospects as follows:
1. Alt 2. Harrison 3. Verse 4. Fuaga 5. Powers Johnson 6. Fashanu 7. Newton 8. Bowers 9. Latham 10.Thomas 11. Daniels 12. Fautanu 13. Sweat 14. Odunze 15. Nabers 16. Latu 17. Turner Three items of note: 1. The QBs are average at best and overrated. If I were looking at QB I’d rather take a shot at Daniels or maybe Rattler in the second round. 2. The DBs are severely overrated. Most have five CBs going in the first round if you count Dejean a CB. Looks to be more of a safety. This Year reminds me of the year we drafted Henderson. Teams are over drafting dbs to keep up with the offense friendly league. Next year there’s way better CB prospects. I guess what I’m trying to say is I hope we don’t use the 17 on a DB. That most certainly will be career suicide for Baalke. The top CBS are fringe first rounders so overdrafting here is unacceptable. Mitchell or Rakestraw in the second I’d be fine with. It’s thin at CB this year. 3. More than likely one of Thomas, Odunze, or Nabers will be available at our pick. As tempting as it is to select one if they fell, I’d rather hold off until the third/fourth for the likes of Polk, Walker, Legette, Wilson, or Baker with the thought of taking one of the premium OL/DL prospects at 17. And yes I have Powers Johnson as a top 10 pick.

No trades, some surprising prospects available, doubtful it occurs in real life, but, I'll take it:
Rome Odunze - WR - Pick 17 - Washington Darius Robinson - EDGE - Pick 48 - Missouri Sedrick Van Pran - CC - Pick 79 - Georgia Braden Fiske - DT - Pick 96 - Florida St. Tyler Davis - DT - Pick 116 - Clemson Javion Cohen - OG - Pick 151 - Miami (FL) Gabe Hall - DT - Pick 194 - Baylor Omar Speights - LB - Pick 210 - LSU Anthony Gould - WR - Pick 233 - Oregon St. Addressed the interior on both sides with competitive players and rotational players. Landed Odunze and Robinson early which is great. Both of those guys add range and explosiveness respectively at WR and EDGE. Hall out of Baylor is listed as big end in a 3 - 4 but the notes and scouts are saying he flashed at his best when kicked inside in a 4 - 3 look so I liked that aspect to him. Speights is a hell of a tackler. Picked him up for special team's depth but also a good looking 3rd down LB if needed on the depth chart. Gould is a return specialist. Had top honors in 2022 in that regard. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. Once the combine starts those two guys more than likely test so well that teams start moving them up 15 - 30 spots on their draft boards. I was high on Will McDonald last year out of Iowa St. and people thought I was crazy for thinking we should take him in RD1 later on that night when we were in our 20's or as early as the 2nd RD. He ended up going to the Jets in the middle of RD1. So did that CB that ended up in Washington out of Ole Miss. He was another guy that ended up going earlier than I had hoped. Not sure neither of those guys did much that was noteworthy as rookies but people were higher on them in the NFL than the actual armchair scouting community. Same hype for Nolan Smith. Big Bulldogs fan on my end. I even cautioned not drafting him. He's a great athlete but due to his injuries and lack of production I just saw him as that. A great athlete. Not a great football player. It'll be interesting to see who rises and falls here over the next few months. I still think depth wise that our odds of landing a good interior lineman on offense and defense along with a receiver is very good. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I don't think he's elite by any means because I just haven't seen enough out of him but he's a good starting caliber RT at the next level at the bare minimum. He's a whopper (not a sloppy whopper, the kid can move) at 6'7, 340 pounds. Better in pass protection Vs. run blocking but I would be hesitant to play him anywhere else right away due to his inexperience and age. If he was selected with the 17th pick I would be under the assumption that the following decisions have been made in March: 1. Cam Robinson is cut. 2. Anton Harrison is moving to LT. I just can't see Mims as a LT right away at the next level in pass protection. He has a tendency due to his size and height to play a little too high and you can get away with that in college, but, against premier edge rushers? Leverage is king. That's something he has to work on. He has the athletic ability to pull it off. I just wouldn't expect much out of him right away that makes you go "Oh, wow!" during his rookie season. It'll be a bit of a process with him and it's more of an upside with trusting your intuition and coaching staff with him to develop. His low end potential would be a slightly bigger and better version of Bryan Bulaga if he can stay healthy unlike Bulaga did for the Packers. His high end potential as a RT is pretty good though, potentially elite if he can get his technique down. I would say he's on par with Ryan Ramczyk. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. There are several interior OL already mentioned who would be upgrades such as Dotson, Lewis, Hunt, Cushenberry, C. Williams and Feliciano- to name just six. Taking at least one of these would enable the Jaguars to select the BAP at pick 17- which Odunze would clearly be. There is always at least one player who inexplicably drops on day 1; other possibilities would be Fashanu, Nabers or Bowers. Getting any of these players at 17 would be a steal as they all have been considered top 5 picks in some mock drafts and Big Boards. The same can be said about the interior defensive line. While the free agent group isn't as deep, if someone like Reader or Wilkins could be signed at a semi-reasonable price the Jaguars should consider that. It just seems more difficult to find very good players at this spot so they might even have to overpay slightly for one of those guys. It goes without saying that nobody knows what the Jaguars Big Board will look like on April 25. There might even be a pass rusher like Jared Verse in their top 5-10 players who ends up being their highest rated player when they pick. I've learned to restrain from strong criticisms of their 1st round picks since Baalke actually has done well in this area. Therefore, it's unlikely I'll be overly critical on draft day which doesn't mean I won't be at least somewhat disappointed if my top choice isn't selected. Couldn't agree more with this edition. Take free agents who will address areas of need so you can draft the most talented player at your spot. He specifically mentioned the Jags taking a guard, center, defensive tackle and cornerback in free agency beginning next month. They don't all have to be the highest priced players- just address positions of need that will be upgraded. Potential targets he mentioned were Robert Hunt, Damien Lewis and Lloyd Cushenberry. This strategy would then enable the Jaguars to take the most talented player at 17 other than quarterback. Some players they may feel that possess exceptional talent who could drop to 17 include Olu Fashanu, Quinyon Mitchell, Brian Thomas, J.C. Latham, Byron Murphy, Jared Verse or even Rome Odunze. None of these play interior OL, the team's biggest need, but there won't be an urgency to reach for a center or guard if they are rated lower on their board due to free agent acquisitions. That certainly doesn't eliminate JPJ from consideration if he is in fact their top rated player when selecting at 17. While this philosophy is certainly not groundbreaking, we need to hope that the Jaguars add a starting free agent interior OL (or 2) during the free agency period beginning in just about 3 weeks from now. That should be the number 1 priority as their are several good candidates and the cost for this position is one of the lowest. Finding a defensive tackle at the right price will be more difficult, but one player I'd strongly consider is Grover Stewart from the Colts. His 6 game suspension last season for PED's combined with the fact he is primarily one=dimensional ( great run stuffer ) should keep his price down. While I am not advocating the Jaguars select Jer'Zhan Newton at 17, he would be a pass-rushing force with Stewart by his side. We show less advertisements to registered users. While we all hated the end of season collapse, it did move them up significantly in the draft to where they have a much better chance of finding a true difference-maker. I just saw cbs' most recent mock (yesterday) which had the Jaguars taking Newton. He is one of those guys who is mocked all over the place due to his less than ideal size for a DT. I'd have to say getting him at 17 would be amazing if they get a run stuffer like Stewart in free agency. By the way, this CBS mock was quite interesting since Brock Bowers didn't go until pick 18. JPJ actually went before Bowers at pick 16 by Seattle- another team needing interior offensive linemen. Imagine a scenario where Bowers, Newton and JPJ are on the board at 17. This would be a really tough one, but I don't know how you could pass on Bowers- especially after hearing T. Wigg's podcast. While Bowers' chances of falling that far are very unlikely, I'd have to say Pederson would likely break the 100 yard dash record in running up to the podium to turn in Bowers' name!

Bowers on that Chargers offense would be scary. |
