They finally announced all of the Defensive staff under Nielsen and that final few hires remaining on offense.
The Kris Richard addition is potentially a really good addition even thought we already knew about that one. Cory Robinson getting our corners ready for more man - or zone disguised as man - will be something to watch. Matt House developing Lloyd/Muma will be something to watch. https://twitter.com/Jaguars/status/17606...69618?s=20
The defensive coaching staff is so good.
This season will be all about Pedeson/Taylor/Trevor. (02-22-2024, 01:31 PM)Cleatwood Wrote: The defensive coaching staff is so good. Nope. Won't be getting my hopes up again like I did last year. I agree. They have multiple holes to address on both sides of the trenches and it starts within the interior. Would think a minimum of 5 new faces between both groups needs to be in the mix this summer. Don't care if it's done via free agency completely, by the draft completely or a combination of both which is the most obvious and likely scenario, but, it all starts up front this off season. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Can't blame you. Personally - I feel like if Center and LG are filled with solid starters for 14 games or more - the offense takes a leap. More help is welcome- but that much alone would make a huge difference IMO. Defensively - and more on topic - I feel like one interior guy that gets a noticeably better pressure rate than RRH and a healthy Hamilton will make a really big impact there. I'm excited by the coaching hires - but yeah - gotta be cautiously optimistic. We've seen good on paper fail in Duval way too many times.
Brian Thomas Jr, Mason Smith, and Meki Wingo I think will really be discussed a good bit with House since he was with them both last year. He coached Wingo and Smith and was going against Thomas Jr every day in practice. Should be able to get some good insight on both

The Jags finished around 22nd in total team defense last year. Obviously there are still some questions about what our personnel will look like on opening day with free agency and the draft still looming, but even at this early point, are our expectations for that ranking to rise significantly (to top half of the league) in 2024? I would say yeah with the addition of Nielsen and the expectation that some help at DT is in the works and with Travon getting another year behind him and presumably still ascending. Allen will be here under the tag in a worst case scenario, so I'm not entertaining any scenarios where he isn't here.

I would settle for a defense finishing in the top 12 - 15 range. Honestly not expecting a massive turn around for this defense in one off season. Especially with the schedule we have this year. I really feel like if this OFFENSE could get better with running the football to where it's at least middle of the pack, and, they can actually convert 3rd and short situations? The defense probably would have been about 16th overall instead of 22nd overall last year to begin with.

I wanted to share this as I was beyond impressed with this man I think this hire has the potential to be a game changer. Maybe Doug grooms him to be his replacement.
Respect the game. Play with a sense of urgency.
1.) Take care of the ball. Win the turnover battle. 2.) It's all about 3rd down. Win on 3rd down to win the game. 3.) Playmakers make plays. The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays. Learn from the great collapse of 2023.
