Young star QB? Let’s just draft more defensive players to help him out! Love it.

We just signed Morese, extended, Eazra, and signed Davis.  Last year the first 3 draft picks were on offense.  There will be good value picks on offense in the 3rd or 4th and even later rounds.  If offense is at the top of our board we will take them.  You want to draft WR's in the first every year.  Last year you wanted to draft Quetin Johnston in the first who was probably the worst rookie WR.  The year before you wanted Jameson Williams who has been horrendous as well.  You can find good WRs outside of the first round if thats the route the team wasnts to go and this year is one of the deepest WRs classes in memory.  You go defense and make this an elite defense and give Trevor more opportunities

Not sure taking a WR in the first in one of the deepest WR classes is the right thing to do.  Ive wanted Rome since last year and would love to add him but it would likely take to much to get him at this point.  Im still high on Brian Thomas as well but it depends on what type of offense Doug wants to run this year.  Davis's yards per route is more than any WR in the league so do we want the best vertical threat in the draft on the oppostie side and just try to have the best big play offense in the league?  Drafting Thomas will depend on what type of offense we want to run and he might not even be there at 17.

Yea, if the draft went like this they'd have to attempt to move up for Newton or JPJ. Newton's workout today may move him back into the first round, however. Not sure if anyone else is worth moving up for with the possible exception of Ennis Rakestraw if they don't go corner in round 1.

He would be appealing to Baalke due to his press coverage skills. It wouldn't totally shock me if the Jaguars take him or McKinstry in round 1.

Id rather McKinstry than Arnold. For some reason McKinstry is one of the more underrated players in this draft imo

Nice graph. A lot of players pretty close. Guess it depends on what the upside is of these guys with coaching.  Also, the level of player they were covering.....if the receiver level was 10% less than someone close and the difference is less than 10% are they equal?

I just get more and more of a feeling the Jags will be trading back, or least trying really hard to do so.

Problem is I could see a few teams in the teens doing that, so the return may not be that great.

Also hearing more and more draftniks and talking heads saying that day 3 picks will be harder than usual to find starters and immediate production guys across the board.

I go Murphy or Barton in the first, then either Beebe/Haynes or Jenkins/Ruke in the second.

Honestly first preference is to trade back at 17 regardless, gimme some more ammo

The biggest reason for this was we had the worst starting center in the league and arguably the worst LG.  With a heathy Ezra and a top half of the league center it should be like night and day as long as Cleveland gets back to his play before the injury.

Our C and RG are both in their tenth seasons. We are a hair's breadth away from a repeat of last year's turnstile line.

Putting a lot of hope in father time forgetting how everything works.

I agree as far as depth.  But I'm saying if our oline is healthy it should be an average oline at the very least.  The chances are low though that our whole interior oline stays healthy.  Scherff is good in pass pro he just isn't a very good run blocker anymore.  I'd be happy with Fuaga in the first and Beebe in the 2nd honestly.  Our oline could be one of the best in the league with great depth.  I don't think that happens but if the right tackle falls I think OT is still on the table.  If Fuaga is there and Mitchell and Bowers are gone I could see that being the pick

I hope so man. I would still love a high end pick, even if he doesn't start day 1. Protecting Trevor and having a run game too important to not invest heavily

He was in the league almost 50 years.  He can look back and knows what works and what doesn't.  He knows how teams operate pre draft. You would be an idiot to think he doesn't know what he's talking about.  When you are picking at the bottom of the draft for 20+ years it's a little different.  He also drafted the GOAT and built 6 SB winning rosters.  I'd say he did well enough at the bottom of those drafts.

using a lot of present tense here when the preterite is more appropriate.

Go back and look at that '99 darft, it was a stinker. He got so very lucky that Brady was a whole lot more than anyone expected.
I'll grant that he is a fabulous student of the game and strategist, but rarely was he winning in the darft. Having QB set in stone saved them a lot of desperation and gave them leverage to take advantage of less disciplined teams on darft day, where they amassed volumes of picks.

Compared to a guy like Ozzie Newsome, Belichick wasn't anything special when it came to evaluating talent.

Who drafted Brady?  Those SB teams had a ton of talent with Brady as well.  BB has 4 more rings than Newsome and he was also the coach on top of filling the GM roll.  Like I said, BB was always picking at the back of every round so it makes it much harder and that much more impressive what he has done in his career.   Regardless how you feel about how good of a drafter he was he knows how teams operate pre draft, that's the point.  He was stating facts about WRs drafted in the first, he wasn't talking about his drafts he was talking about the whole league.  Lots of insight from him in how teams think pre draft.   He wasn't just talking about how he operates he was talking around the league, if you watched the video you would understand that.
