I've noticed that over the past 2 seasons, Trevor can be big play blind on 3rd downs instead of simply focusing on moving the chains. He's better with it in two minute hurry up situations, but during regular offensive sets...he appears to look for the big play first instead of doing the Tom Brady thing and simply taking what is underneath and getting another 3 downs. 3rd down efficiency has to be MUCH better.

I think you can put third down efficiency primarily on the OL's horrendous run blocking. In every run situation with 3rd down with 3 yards or less needed to convert, the Jags' run game was so ineffective they only attempted to run the ball 29 times. Of those 29 attempts on third and short - they converted 16 runs into first downs. Those numbers should be more like 45 attempts and 30 first downs. (for instance - balt.ravens - 43 att / 30 first downs. -- eagles - 42 att - 31 first downs) Sure - there are other 3rd down problems to address from last year - but when you can't run for 2 yards at will you have a major problem.

One of the worst stats I've seen is that last year we ran the ball for zero or negative yardage 120 times. That is the second most of all the teams in the league. So it's not just a problem with 3rd and short. It's our running game leaving us with 3rd and long. If he is a legitimate Edge 3 like Arden Key was then look out. I would also like to see Devin Lloyd get more pass rushing reps from the first 2 levels.
Respect the game. Play with a sense of urgency.
1.) Take care of the ball. Win the turnover battle. 2.) It's all about 3rd down. Win on 3rd down to win the game. 3.) Playmakers make plays. The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays. Learn from the great collapse of 2023. As the season progressed EVERYONE in the league, stadium and my grandmother knew we were going to pass the ball on 3rd and short. The shorts were either covered or a bait situation to get him to take it.

It'll be an interesting summer and preseason to watch. As many have said. Hoping like hell Morse holds up physically and he was the missing piece to the puzzle.
Maybe our running game can finally show some consistency beyond getting knifed in the backfield and setting the offense up with multiple long down and distances needed to refresh the set of downs. 3rd and inches and 4th and inches were pathetic to watch when they ran the football. It's aggravating. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. The guy is a late round draft pick who's never played a down in the NFL. Why does everyone think he's starter material? I've echoed this sentiment myself, but the fact that the beat guys all seem to think he looks like the real deal in these practices is encouraging. I'm slowly shifting away from my skepticism over his praise. A little bit anyway. I'm certainly not penciling him in anywhere, but if we end up with a quality back-up guard by way of a 7th round pick, I'll be quite happy. If he's more than that, we hit the jackpot. Now more serious, his love can be explained by his behavior during training camp last year. He was seen often hyping up the crowd, joking with his teammates, just having a lifting personality. So is easy to root for a good/fun guy (06-08-2024, 01:34 PM)NYC4jags Wrote:(06-08-2024, 01:27 PM)The Real Marty Wrote: I don't understand this Cooper Hodges love I see everywhere. I have been on both sides of this, mainly due to the performance of our line last year. I know during practice he had been showing out last year, which is a plus. The negative is it was against our interior D-line guys who during the season proved to not be elite to say the least. So, right now I have a large question mark by his name. I do like the story of a local guy making good, but stories don't block people. There is hope, but that has proved not to be a good plan. We will see....

Parker looks quick and fluid in and out of his breaking route there. Granted, it's no pads and what not, but, good indicator he has those injuries behind him. During the 2023 training camp Cooper won over the croud by doing a cartwheel(s) at the beginning of every camp practice and became camp favorite. ALOT of fan prayed that he'd solidify our OL just like they're/we're doing now. SORRY. W/that being said, it would be extremely pleasant if this materialized because it's all about talent. Drafting and FA signings are dependent upon for success. Him being healthy strengthens the team/OL. Time Will Tell. NH3...
