Does it seem like Clowney doesn't fit with out "culture."

#1

Everything I've heard, Bradley, who seems to be eye to eye with Caldwell, wants three things out of his players: guys who love football, guys who compete, and guys who have a high motor. Amongst other things, but those are the ones that stick out for me. It also seems like guys like Clowney are wanted by teams including the Falcons. We could start to get the 12 to 14" picks like Caldwell wants from a team like Falcons. It makes too much sense to go another direction

"We'll get a chance to visit him in the next couple weeks but I see enough plays where he's playing hard," Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said at the NFL's owner meetings when asked about Clowney's lack of effort on some plays. "I do see him getting a great rush and making great plays and it's our job as a coaching staff to get that consistently."

If he's there he's ours.

Agree.  They love him, and why wouldn't they?

He's only going to be there for us if:

1.  Texans fall in love with Bortles/Manziel and reject any trade offers

2.  Rams fall in love with Watkins and reject any trade offers

I feel like the Texans have already decided to take Bortles at this point.

I just don't see them going into the season with Fitzpatrick at QB. Everyone knows what to expect from Fitzpatrick and it's not much of an improvement over Schaub.

Clowney is such an elite talent, he will be tough to pass up.

That's true, but I really don't like Clowney in a 3-4 defense, and I'm hoping Houston feels the same way.

I also believe there's less than a 30% chance that Clowney is picked at #2 by the Rams or anyone else. The Rams are in a "final piece" situation on offense where they can finally catch up with the rest of the NFCW by shoring up the line and picking a reciever, and no one is trading up that high for a DE and Atlanta simply doesn't have the ammunition to do so, even if they have expressed interest.

I don't think it's as unlikely. I think the Rams could maybe just take a 3rd to move back with the Falcons and still probable land Robinson. I think they have to fall in love with Watkins for us to land Clowney, assuming Houston does go QB #1.

I see your point, but I'll laugh if the Rams give up the #2 pick to Atlanta for just a third.

Yeah, they shouldn't do that.

Hell, I wouldn't even trade our #3 pick for Atlanta's 3rd rounder.

We'll for comparisons sake, didn't we give up a 4th rounder to move up 2 spots to take Blackmon?

And people laughed at Tampa for doing so.

This is true. I was just saying I don't think they would necessarily need to hold the pick at ransom since it's likely Robinson would be there for them at six anyways. You are right they should get more then that.

Moving up from 7th to 5th costs much less than to move to from 5th to 3rd, for example.

And the 4th rounder from 7th to 5th was a "steal" on our part..

Personally I would only trade out of the top 3 if someone gives me a "kings ransom" type of deal.

Unfortunately though that's not going to happen this year. I would love it but its not realistic. Jeff Fisher said as much today:

Quote:But it’s not going to happen. Rams coach Jeff Fisher acknowledged that if the Rams do trade down, no team is going to give up anything close to what the Rams got in that 2014 trade because there’s no prospect as alluring as Robert Griffin III. “I think it’s highly unlikely that even if we did trade out that would we get the value that we did the first time around,” Fisher told ESPN.

Yeah, I know, it's highly unlikely.

I still wouldn't do any team a favor by letting them take a guy they love at 3 when we have a chance to do so.

We have plenty of picks.... we're not desperate to trade down.  I say stay at 3 and pick the best of the bunch.

If Clowney is there, it will be a no-brainer.

Whichever team gets the #2 pick will have their choice of quarterbacks if Clowney is gone. That's good enough, and I think even Fisher knows that despite what he said.

#2 is valuable. #3 is even moreso because one of those QBs is likely to be gone at #3 if Houston picks Clowney.

I think this QB class, although not bad, is just not as highly thought of as the Luck/RG3 one which warranted a ridiculous trade like that.

i highly doubt the texans pass on Clowney. With the way teams in the NFC are building defense 1st and letting the QBs come to them, and developing them the rest of the league will follow suit.  I'm not sure how O'Brien turned around the penn state program, but he'll probably take a similar approach in Huston.

If Clowney is at 3, the Jaguars are taking him. He'll fit in just fine.
