Inflation - Grocery Shopping

Just folks trying to help each other out. Plus, who doesn't like to save money regardless of the economy.
Publix got their chicken breast packages BOGO this week. Loaded up the deep freeze yesterday.
“An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
My wife brought home a package of chicken breast from the grocery store last week.. These two chicken breasts in the package were almost like the size of turkey breasts lolol.. They were almost unnatural in size lol.. Like some kind of wierdo carnival chicken, probably had a beard and swallowed fire swords too.
It was just too unnatural for me. Like they fed it plutonium or uranium or something. We threw the package away.
I just think it's fine that people are telling us the economy is fine. I don't remember having a bargain bin thread during the Trump years.

That's because many people were getting $1,200 checks while they were not adversely impacted from Covid. I didn't get a check but I actually saved $$ during Covid and since by working from home so why should those working from home get $1,200 checks when they are saving $2,000 per year in gas $$. Perhaps Biden should just give out free checks, keep our rates at 0%, and run up our deficit. Then we can delete the bargain bin thread. I pretty much opt for the Winn Dixie frozen breasts (always BOGO so i'm not sure it's considered a "sale"). In any event, I know it's not real chicken as it's been injected with [BLEEP] but I typically spice it up so give flavor to the rubber chicken looking thing that I'm eating.

How was the American economy before covid? Before those checks? Before lockdowns? How about compared to the Chinese economy?

Do you actually know economics or do you get your info from Fox News? That's a rhetorical question, since I already know the answer to that question. The US could not keep interest rates at 0%. There was a surge of spending after Covid. In the US, the economy does simply do a 180 upon the country's change in leadership. Personally, the Fed, who is primarily responsible for inflation/deflation is doing a great job at controlling the market, without any severe indication of a recession (aka Soft Landing). Conversely, they probably should have raised the rates earlier in the game and not listened to Trump urging them to keep rates at 0%. That said, the economy goes in cycles so I'm not really here to blame Trump or Biden but rather make the most of the situation and bargain shop (which I've been doing all my life) and take advantage of what the stock market presents under each President & Fed Chair.
I think some of Biden's policies have made inflation worse.
But all of the policies Trump has proposed, they are still vague of course, but they will definitely make inflation worse, not better. Voters and Donors say they want to reduce inflation but they don't want to do the things that are necessary to reduce inflation.

Isn't it hilarious when people tell you not to believe your lying eyes and tell you that your life wasn't better under Trump?

The economy was healthier during the first three years of Trump's presidency, even though his policies then are contributing to inflation today, and even though the likely policies he will pursue if he's President again will create more inflation. Trump was lucky for those 3 years. We all were. Obama had similar luck all 8 years he was in.

Life was great under Bush too, considering all of the eased bank loan requirements and the vast appreciation in housing values. Business was booming .... then .... CRASH .... the recession. Every good or bad sequence of events does not begin and end at the beginning and end of each presidential term. In fact, many presidents benefit or are adversely impacted by what the prior president did during his term in office. With inflation down to a manageable level and unemployment at a very acceptable level, I'd have to say those in charge, have done a remarkable job at balancing what could have been a severe recession. OK ..OK .. OK.... regardless of the above, I'm a lot less concerned about the presidential election this time around than I was in 2016. I think both candidates have the (+) to balance their (-) so at this point, I'm probably 50/50 on policies but don't like one candidate more than I don't like the other candidate. With that in mind, I could see myself voting republican in 2028, but not this year. I think my voting record is ~ 2/3 Dems over Republicans .... as far as i can remember, it was Clinton, Bush, Obama, Romney, H Clinton, Biden.

I see math isn't your strong point. Obviously your judgment is lacking a bunch as well if you voted for hillary and biden. Also, if your boy Obama was doing so well, why vote for the rino Romney? There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. |
