Suggesting CJB as a starter. strawman much?

The difference between Mac and Darnold LAST YEAR was that one was a UFA and one wasn't. So one costs picks AND cash, the other just costs cash. If neither one is going to be the long-term solution, which would the savvy GM pursue? Next year, Mac will be a UFA and Darnold will likely be one as well. We'll see then if that changes the story. Darnold had more systemic experience, playing with mutliple teams in multiple roles. If the plan was to darft a rook and groom them into starting, Darnold's experience is certainly a greater asset than Mac's. Sometimes being able to throw a ball over them mountains isn't the only thing you're looking for in a QB.

God forbid, if Trev went down and CBJ came in and helped carry us to the playoffs CBJ would be getting a lot of attention on the open market and a team or 2.  Very possible a team or 2 would be looking at him on the open market like the Raiders did this year with Minshew.  You have no clue.  Gms aren't as high on Mac as you and a few others on this board.  What's comical is before he came here some of these same posters were talking about how bad is Mac is and that he sucks lol. Jones was my 2nd favorite QB in this class and I still think he has a chance to do some good things if a QB goes down.

It's just his tendency to turn it over. Lawrence has had has fair share of these for sure, however, a lot of his mistakes are in unique areas of the football field and they don't break the back of the team the way that I have seen Mac's occur. 

I am not kidding. Virtually anytime I saw this kid in a primetime game for the Patriots? He had some kind of major [BLEEP] up occur. Fumble ran back for a TD, pick six, etc. Hopefully it never happens here to be honest with you.

I agree, I think Mac is better than CJ as well.  Not sure if the staff or other GMs around the league fell that way though.  Mac should have been QB2 last week.  Hopefully they look good this week.

I just fully understand that a former first round kid coming off his rookie deal is likely going to chase the chance to get back on the field over an opportunity to stay local and hold clipboards. Especially if it commands money similar to what Minshew or Darnold brought in vs. what we've been paying C. Beathard J. (SWIDT?) to clap for Trevor after a good play.

The round he was drafted in at this point means nothing.  He will go to the team that will give him the biggest contract and rightfully so.  It's the NFL and he may never get another decent contract offer again.  If we offer about the same as another team he might want to stay in Jax.  He needs 2 good preseason games to help his cause.  I think Mac is better than Darnold, I would have rather traded a 6th for Mac and less than 4 mil this year than Darnold at 10 mil.  Darnold sucks imo.  Minshew is a decent QB and it will be interesting to see how he does this year.  Mac is going to have to win some more games before he gets a contract like Minshew.

Yes his rookie year, as well as that game vs the Bills they won during that season with Mac only throwing 3 total passes. Two of which came in the final minutes of the game, yet the Pats still won 14-10.

One could argue McCarthy had the best game of all the rookies last week.  If he continued to look that good he probably would have started week 1 and he was in a great spot for a rookie to start with those weapons and a very good oline.

Mac is good. How good no way to tell. He was thrust into an impossible situation. His head coach was exposed after Brady left town as a sub 500 coach. He played in a town that had become as entitled as Alabama fans are each year in college. Now after considering our stellar offensive line it is nice to have him on our roster. His arm is stronger than CJ's but is not as strong as TL's. He will make a good backup this year, we may need him. A team looking for him this year will need to do better than a 4th.

If he stinks it up for 3 or 4 weeks it's a no question decision to put the new kid in and ride out the season no matter what. Interesting scenario with CJ getting banged up last night and Mac going back in. I thought Mac played a hell of a game. He had a few misses but threw some dimes out there.

Did they completely pull CJ because they want his as the backup and to be healthy? Or did he get hurt enough they had to pull him and now they can easily throw him on IR or waive injured and roll with Mac.

Guess it depends on his health, but based on these 2 games, Mac is definitely the better player. If CJ plays all of the 3rd game I’d say we know for sure Mac is the #2

Mac Jones made the pro bowl his first year in New England, when Josh McDaniels was the OC.  But when McDaniels left, Belichick took Matt Patricia, who had never coached offense his entire life, and made him the offensive coordinator.  Then Belichick took Joe Judge, the special teams coach, and made him the quarterback coach.
