Ok. then Morse bumps his head in the second quarter in Miami and is out. Who plays center?

I was just rewatching the first couple of series from last night’s game. Even though it was 2s on 2s, the OL looked fairly good. I specifically watched Fortner. He wasn’t getting driven back or rag dolled. I was surprised. Based on that small sample size, maybe there’s hope for him?

I thought I saw Hance playing center in the second half last night. Need to skip ahead and check that out.

Also to be noted in this clip. Look at BTJ holding his own against LB Chris Braswell. He's 255lbs.. Love to see it.

I was wrong. It was 60, Williams. He held up ok. But wasn’t smooth.

70, Van Lanen, looked ok at RT.

But of course by that time it was against other 3s and 4s.

That's why I'm pointing it out, there's not another lineman on the roster who has taken snaps at center and they are going to have to keep one of Fortner, Shatley, or Williams for that reason.

Fortner and shatley should be cut, no question about it. Hodges has shown moments and I like what I’ve seen from van lanen this preseason. Definitely need to add someone after cut day though. There will most definitely be better options for depth than some of the guys we are rostering.

We need to trade for a real guard. I know it’s not a flashy trade, but we need someone competent in there.

Yea….

I am all for cutting Fortner already, or, finding some way to trade him. I really believe there's a better Center out there in free agency to be had. No bull [BLEEP].

Should've signed Connor Williams, he would've been perfect in the back up to starter role while he recovers from that knee surgery. He signed last week for a max $6 million one year deal, that was completely affordable and I'm sad we didn't do it.

Yeah. We'll be bargain bin shopping here shortly.

My guess is that you could get an 8th round pic for Fortner.   Wink

Who ??  I have looked at what is available now and what we have is better.  Then went and looked at the 90 man rosters of teams, nothing better than likely to get cut.  Only chance is a "surprise" cut for cap reasons. I give this a low probability due to the scarcity of good IOL. We basically swapped/traded K'Lavon Chaisson to Carolina (6th) for Ezra Cleveland (6th) last year only because Minnesota knew he was injured.  Maybe I missed someone ?

So we have the 31st best backup offensive linemen.   It's just backups in preseason.
