Some of us have said that for over year, much to the chagrin of the "X's and O's" guys. Calling the right play doesn't prevent a weak guy from getting whipped.

Both of them can be the issue. You can have great OL players but they could fail to run the play. You can have a great play call but the OL fails to run.

It's on the coaches to find what works for the players they have. If the system doesn't work, then stop running the same thing and expecting it to work all of a sudden.



For this season, Press says we shouldn't be worried because we haven't seen the 5 starters play together. I hope they really do play well and no one gets hurt because what we have seen so far isn't good.

It's pretty clear the driver's here (Lawrence and Taylor) have been at the mercy of a flat tire or two along this offensive line. The fastest, strongest car on the planet simply cannot perform at it's best nor perform at all really when a tire or two is either losing air or completely flat and shot. 

That's where we're at right now as an offense entering 2024. It's not only visible with the average eyeball tester, but, it's further supported by advanced metrics and statistics. You can look at the negative yardage with the ground game and the fact that Lawrence has had one of the top two, three releases in the NFL over the last two seasons from snap to pass attempt.

That's not by design. That's by necessity.

Not only that, the the offensive efficiency from 2022 (Doug calling plays) to 2023 (Press calling plays) was nearly identical. 
Supported again by multiple metrics and results found in various splits from each season. Of course the rushing splits between those two years took a downturn - and it should be obvious that wasn't a playcalling issue. 

The passing efficiency was consistent from years to year, and that was ironically the thing the short fuse crowd was lambasting Press about. 

Regardless of where you land on Press Taylor, we should all agree that the line must perform at a higher level in 2024 if we are going to reach the post season.

We should all agree that the offensive line shouldn't be so "offensive" this season.  Open some holes up for the running back and protect the quarterback in passing plays.  It's not rocket science.

Except that we should have all five for the 1st reg season game or shortly thereafter. 

It really does suck that the starting LG hasn't been repping with the other starters the past few weeks though. 

I wouldn't compare it to starting a wing and a prayer at LG who sucks and gets IR'd 5 games into the season, having a LT suspended to start the year, starting a second year center who sucked as a rookie and still sucked in year 2, playing an injured RG for the last 5 games of the year, and going through four LGs on the season. 

We definitely aren't "there."

Doug didn't replace any of the coaches responsible, some random assistant got fired.
Baalke replaced the C, main problem, but didn't put a priority on drafting for depth and future.
Nothing has changed with the scheme.

If the team can't run the ball, can't pass block, etc again, then someone has to go. We know the snake will blame others and find a way to stay. Doug doesn't seem to want to put blame on the coaches for failing to adapt and get something that would work. If it happens again and Doug passes the buck again, the axe may fall on him.

I doubt that anyone will be fired, barring a complete collapse, or a scandal, both of which are unlikely.  Shad Khan doesn't operate that way.  

Besides, this team is substantially improved since last year.   Unless we have a lot of injuries to key players, 9-8 would be our floor.  We are going to be way better on defense, with Nielsen at DC, and the defensive line tremendously improved.  On offense, the addition of Morse at C, and BTJ at WR will also help a lot.  Mac Jones could also get us a win or two if Trevor has to miss some games.  This is a better roster than last year, and a better coaching staff.  

I guess the offseason and preseason are times when fans are going to get angry about things that haven't happened yet, or about a 5th round draft pick they disagree with.

I have a question. How well do you know Baalkie?  Have you ever met him? Is the bold statement an evaluation based on facts or is it something someone just told you?  I have been looking for someone who had actual knowledge but am yet to find anyone. Everyone was told this by the press that got mad because he would not and still will not leak stuff to them. So I ask, where is your proof.

The calling for heads to roll before a single game is played is so on brand for some of our regulars

Also, the comment about the scheme not changing remains to be seen.
Doug has mentioned it at two pressers so far that he was looking at altering the run blocking scheme.
I expect we'll see him throw out some of the things that they couldn't get the timing down on last year and replace them with something fresh.

Hehe, I don't know if "snatching" is the correct word.  If a team cuts another player, and he ends up on the Jaguars roster that's just the normal procedure in the NFL.  Maybe if the Jags get a player that the other team was planning to put on the practice squad, that could be described as "snatching."
