Should Convicted Felons be Allowed to Vote?

I came across an article in the NY Times, that argued for restoring the right to vote for convicted felons in Tennessee. Because of racial disparities or something. I was really neutral on whether convicted felons should vote or not, but what amazed me was that nine percent of the voting age population in Tennessee are convicted felons! So I googled, what percentage of the US population are convicted felons, and I found out that there are 24 million convicted felons in the United States. That is very surprising to me.
24 million convicted felons would represent a powerful interest group, that might be interested in weakening our laws or some other thing that would be to their advantage. So now I'm thinking, convicted felons should not be allowed to vote. Because law abiding citizens should vote for representatives that would protect them from being the victim of a felony. Or something. Don't let convicted felons vote. There are too many of them. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
In the current state of lawlessness and liberal judges who fabricate charges to convict people, sure, let them vote.
Our society is over-policed and the Justice System is inconsistent and biased. I have no issue with Felons getting their right to vote back, I have issues with getting their 2A rights back. Some white collar accountant who embezzled millions of dollars is not the same as an armed robber who knocks over a couple banks.

I actually agree with FSG and SC1.
A democracy shouldn't have that many people banned from voting. Something is wrong with a justice system that produces that many convictions. Fortunately most states allow most felons to vote already. Florida is behind, but that's another story. I wonder if FSG and SC1 agree with DeSantis' efforts to prevent felons from voting.

I'd rather strip away the rinos and libtards abilities to vote, since they're the cause of our collapse.

Once you serve your time, rights should be restored. As anyone who is incarcerated by the government shouldn't be voting, no one who is employed/paid by the government should be voting. That would never happen though as it would stop a lot of the get rich quick people. Sent from my SM-T970 using Tapatalk

But my point was that technically Trump could be unfairly put in jail based on a political witch hunt. Political persecution doesn't fall into the same category as rape and murder as far as having your voting rights stripped. I think Vermont is the only state that lets people vote from jail. For a little while IIRC Florida was the only state that said felons could never vote again no matter how long they had been out of jail. We are still far behind the other 49 states in restoring voting rights. DeSantis wants it that way.

I wonder if you guys have thought of the fact that, since a disproportionate number of convicted felons are black, and since black people vote overwhelmingly Democrat, then restoring the voting rights to the 24 million convicted felons would cost Trump the election.

Democrats aren't the problem. The far left liberals and trash rinos are.

No, because the black population have begun to shift their vote which is why democrats have abandoned them and are now importing millions of illegals. The entire point of your post was a troll to arrive at the comment you just made. Most of them aren't going to actually vote. Even if you don't try to scare them the way Florida does, their turnout is low. Plus I don't think you can predict how black felons might vote based only on how black non-felons vote.

Not really. I actually wanted to state my opinion and get some reactions.
Like others have said, depending on the crime would depend on whether I think a former felon should get their voting rights reinstated. There are people with a list of misdemeanors that should have their voting rights banned just as much, if not more so than convicted felons.
Incarcerated people shouldn't be allowed to vote. Period.
I think once you serve your sentence then you should be reinstated with your voting rights. If you have to make a living in a capitalistic society, then you should be able to chose your elected officials.

I'm ok with this so long as the really bad felons aren't ever done serving their sentence. I also believe that we have too many laws that put too many people in prison who shouldn't be and too many inconsistencies in how those laws are applied. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
