Offensive Line 2024

Honestly, the O-Line looked fine on Sunday.
That first possession in the 1st Quarter was pretty terrible. But they held up and dominated from there on until the fumble. The moment ETN fumbled, the vibe changed for the entire team. To ignore that, is to ignore reality. Whether you blame the players or the coaching is not really relevant. It's just the fact of what happened. With that said, were we supposed to win this game? Yes. Were we predicted this game? No. But this was a total failure all around. I just don't know why they didn't continue to feed BTJ. Instead we got conservative and the the Dolphins D just pinned their ears back and rushed the passer in the 4th, and our play calling and O-Line couldn't stop the flood. In the 1st half and most of the 3rd Quarter, our offense and the O-Line had the dolphins on their heels. After the fumble, we crumbled. It is what it is. The O-Line did their job for 3 Quarters. The proof is in what in the 1st half with BTJ. The O-Line failed in the 4th Quarter when the entire team fell apart. I don't blame the O-Line for this game. Besides that first drive where they almost got Trevor killed, they played well enough to ensure a win. But we made mistakes that cost us and we aren't very mentally strong to overcome a huge mistake. These things happen. But it's not the end of the world. Though I do hope that someone this week gets to Harrison and gives him a fire and brimstone talk. He's not supposed to be the weak link on the line. (09-10-2024, 04:26 PM)carp8dm Wrote: Honestly, the O-Line looked fine on Sunday. Reasonable take. Good teams FAFO, great teams just FO and finish games. They're still in the FAFO phase, something we've been hearing since last year. We'll see. Starts this Sunday with the Browns. I hope they rip their [BLEEP] heads off and carry them up there to Buffalo on pikes to show them off and then take them down to Houston with a few Buffalo pelts, all that good [BLEEP]. One week at a time. One game at a time. Nobody should be more angry at themselves than the football team and their approach needs to be violence, and focus, violence and focus. Don't block people. HIT people. Don't run the ball. Run THROUGH people. Don't throw the ball. Zip that [BLEEP] around like a frozen rope. Don't just play a good game. FINISH the [BLEEP] game. FINISH it. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. I'm not a season ticket holder, and honestly, I was not planning on going to the Cleveland game, but my family is out of town this weekend. I'm gonna scalp a cheap ticket and go watch this game in person. I know most people think this isn't a "Must Win" game. But honestly, I think it is. We can't go 0-2. We gotta clown the browns. This was a bad call regardless, but watch the 4th and 1 run in Jags territory. Slow it down and focus on Cam Robinson as the play starts. Talk about a miss.
I agree with what DeLugo said today about the oline. I think they are good enough when they are ballanced but we dont have a good enough oline if the D knows what we are going to run. We cant just line up and try to run it down the opposing teams throat when they know we are going to run it. If we have the defense guessing between run and pass we have a good enough oline.

Basically, play calling once again has to be perfect, Lawrence has to be on the money with every pass attempt, and his skill position options on the outside cannot drop the football. In other words, we're a rhythm football team that cannot afford to get out of rhythm at all. We'll see how it shakes out down the road. It's clear this team doesn't have power in it's DNA. It's all about dancing with bears instead of mauling like bears and that goofy [BLEEP] FB run play with Bigsby is a prime example as to what I mean. Going to be fun all year with this offense. I guess they're going to have to get creative as a team and get over the short yardage hump of last year. If Doug's going to gamble on 4th and short? They need to be a lot more creative than just running it back-to-back for a half an inch or a loss in those scenarios. You drafted Strange in the 2nd RD of last year. When does he start becoming more of a factor in the passing game? When do you start using him as a move TE with H-back formations and flexibility? Lawrence and this offense has RPO in it's background and DNA. When does Lawrence's legs become an actual factor in this offense beyond him just buying time when [BLEEP] breaks down in obvious passing situations? Time to get creative folks. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. Eh, just don't be predictable. There are a lot of play callers in the league that can do this. As far as Strange, that was Doug's guy or Doug had a big say in drafting him. The way Doug talked about him is everything Doug wants out of a TE, with that said Strange hasn't been close to what they thought he was going to be. Up to this point it has been a swing and a miss. Hopefully he can do something Sunday, anything. A block, a catch, something. Anything but a drop, a fumble, or a missed block would be nice.
You guys really clamoring for the 6th option to get the ball? Weird.

He's mobile, but I think he's a bit too tall and has long legs that make him more of a loper than a quick-twitch type of guy. I imagine him taking big shots to his ribs, repeatedly, and nothing good comes of that. Aside from RPO, I agree that the offensive scheme needs to get a little more creative. I mean Doug runs his own style of the west-coast offense, but I don't see all of the quick WR hits/slants/buttons that used to be called 'west-coast running.' Passes that get 4-5 yards on a 3-step drop, starts to pull the secondary forward and opens up the stop-and-go deep routes.

Same old song and dance.
OL blocks well and the run game is fine. OL blocks poorly and "iT's ThE plAYcAlLInG!!" I'll never understand why so many fans casually overlook poor execution and decide a different play call would have magically worked so much better.
