The birther movement was racist and Trump promoted it.  But most Republicans knew Obama was born in the US and most Republicans don't care what race Harris is.  Most Dems don't care either, frankly, as long as she can win.

We forget how much of Trumps rise in politics was due to his constant rabble rousing about Obama’s birth certificate. He lied for YEARS about having some crack investigators in Hawaii digging up the truth. Years. When he finally was forced to admit that it just went on the pile of garbage we all know he lies about. He called into radio shows. He talked endlessly about it. It was how he got his creds in the right wing conspiracy culture he benefits from even today. Alll built on obvious provable lies.

It's always the same thing. Failure to connect the dots. This was back in the day when you had to play politics. Hillary's camp released that information. They also released images of him dressed as a Muslim. They fired that staffer, too. They also accused him of using sexist codewords. Obama's camp accused her of running a smear campaign (which she did). But, I guess we can pretend that Clinton is as pure as the pure white snow. It's just her supporters who would do such horrible things. 

Obama released his birth certificate in June of 2008, before he was even officially nominated by the DNC. Why would he need to do that if this was just an idea perpetrated by Trump (which didn't start until 2011) or those dirty Republicans? The reason the Obama thing never took traction on the right was because Obama ran against John McCain, who was born in Panama. Otherwise, John McCain would have continued that trend... but not John McCain himself, obviously. Just his followers and the talking heads. John McCain was also as pure as the pure white snow, but I digress.

Here's a Snopes fact check on the allegation. Sure, there's no mention of Hillary, but who was he just running against? Not Trump... I can tell you that much.
