The expectations were high for 2024. We had a nice run in 2022, got off to a hot start in 2023 that was derailed by injuries, so the expectation was basically to see the corrections made in 2024 and that this offense would be off to a great start.

It's a little perplexing now. Because it's hard to figure out where the team goes after scoring just 17 points, followed by 13 points and then just 10 points last night. That's really, really perplexing. Probably the most perplexing component of this team's start so far.

I am more forgiving with the defense. Because it's a new installment, new philosophy, new coach and coaching staff. I was expecting a goose egg or two left on them here and there. Especially against the better offenses in the NFL. So, more forgiving there for the most part.

This offense has done them absolutely no favors. They have not had a lead now in eight or nine quarters of play. The offense has statistically gotten off to one of it's worst starts with Lawrence. Interesting team at the moment. The offense has the most questions to answer before I start bashing the defense though.

Hard to play with a lead when you opt to take the ball to start the 2nd half and the opposition marches down and scores a TD on their opening drive in the 1st which has happened the past 2 games.  If we win the toss in Houston, we should probably opt to take the ball first to see if we can take advantage of playing with a lead for once.

The defense also has 3 of their top 4 corners out .  Offense is just missing Engram but they have their TE they drafted in the 2nd 2 years ago.  Every team has injuries and a lot of teams have more than us but it's next man up and they still win regardless

So after helping my son with some of his VPK pattern homework I think I have worked out the solution.

17-13-10
Dropped by 4 then 3
So im thinking it is likely going to drop by 2 leaving us with 8
17-13-10-8

Luckily we will only drop 1 for week 5 leaving us with 7 against the colts so we just have to hold the colts scoreless which I believe is doable against AR and that extremely underwhelming offense.

Week 5 may be winnable.. it will be the ole completely stoppable force vs the absolutely moveable object match up we can look forward to.

I hear you for the potential to double dip, but it would be nice for the offense to come out for their first drive not already down 7.

Not to mention we had an opportunity to at least build a little dignity in the second half when we marched it down and scored on the first drive. Then we proceeded to allow them to march it right down and score for the 6th or 7th straight time right after that.

Offense is horrible and they are certainly an issue.

But defense was just as pathetic, the bills secondary was depleted as well. We still started this game with plenty of veteran players on D that were “supposed” to at least help this team stay in games. Don’t need to shut them out, but how about keep them out of the end zone one time ?!?

Defense was historically bad last night and in the nfl there really is no excuse for that level of ineptitude. Blame goes on everyone from GM to coaches to players that played.

Hell, I'll even take a punt after 5 plays on the first drive.

Yeah, the D was terrible yesterday.  There's no doubt.  But the D held its own for the most part in Miami and even against Cleveland, we held them to 18 points.  The offense has been terrible for all 3 games.  The D has only been terrible for 1 game.

If the D get's smoked by the tinhorns this Sunday, then yah, I guess it'll be time to start putting more scrutiny on Neilsen.

We scored 3 points last night not 10. The touchdown at the beginning of the second half was after they called the dogs off. The Bills were basically playing a prevent defense and we managed to make even that look difficult.  Anytime in the second half they wanted to stop us they just cranked it up and did.

They lost that game before the first snap. The defensive gameplan was just wrong, from the beginning, they should have known that man-to-man coverage is not favorable at all with Josh Allen. Zone is.

They should have been practicing zone coverage, robber looks, zone blitzes, even mixing in Allen and Walker in this one to drop into flat zone coverages while rushing the backers up into the middle of Allen's pocket instead of giving him four yard gaps to smile and chuckle at before running for 12 yards on 3rd and 11.

They got schooled last night. Not even close. Joe Brady probably immediately looked at the coverage and [BLEEP] himself in disbelief that Ryan Nielsen was this stupid or ballsy enough to give him man-to-man all day. No adjustments were made neither.

At some point, the coaches need to call a timeout and make adjustments mid game. It's something I don't see Doug hardly ever doing. Call a timeout, get your guys in order, get your [BLEEP] together, pivot and do what you have to do at the minimum to stop the bleeding.

This team got treated like a tether ball last night. Was hard to watch. I honestly don't ever want to see some [BLEEP] like this again this year. That should have been the first sentence out of Khan's mouth this morning before Doug had his ZOOM meeting with the media.

For all of you placing a majority of the blame on the defense, did you guys think that this defense would be stifling with Montaric Brown, Ronald Darby, Christian Braswell, Jarrian Jones, and Antonio Johnson?

Let's take off the Jags blinders when these guys are lining up against our offense during the offseason...

I'm more disappointed with Hines-Allen, Walker, Armstead and the front seven - but our secondary is depleted right now, so expecting anything otherwise is just ignorance.

And like the other poster mentioned, our ONLY touchdown last night was when the Bills started playing an umbrella-shell, prevent defense in the 3RD QUARTER... The offense simply sucks at this point - and every player is complicit in this putrid product...

I still saw their starters in the game… I saw a little juice from some offensive players which means at least a little bit of pride. Yes we acknowledge offensive scheme and personnel suck that much is not even up for debate.

But the defense ? Nah. If they called off the dogs then what does that say about our D at that stage? They still couldn’t get a stop.

Or did you just mean only their D called off the dogs and their O was still running up the score?

Either way it doesn’t matter other than to at least show some doggone courage and fortitude for your team, your city, or heck even in your game. But no.

Absolutely this ^^^^^^^^. One of the worst game plans for a Bills Allen led team that could possibly have been conceived. And we had no adjustments whatsoever

For the record, I’m blaming everyone.

My blame list in order:

1. Baalke (I’ve hated him since day 1)
2. Pederson. Looks lost
3. OL. Can’t create holes for the running game so it’s 2nd and 9 which puts pressure on Trevor to be perfect every play.

That’s my top 3 and it’s unlikely to change any time soon.

They both sucked… not one more than the other.. equally… I think the D is worse than what some folks on here care to admit because of the Miami and Cleveland games but the red flags are everywhere.

Between JHA Walker Armstead Oluekon dlloyd Cisco and to a lesser extent Darby we have veterans who could have at least generated some type of momentum or something.. they all played like they just came from a funeral … or rather like they were attending one which actually seems like an adequate description of the team performance last night.

My rhetoric would be VASTLY different if we had lost 35 - 40, where our offense hypothetically managed to stay neck and neck with the Bills offense.

In fact, if we perhaps sustained a couple of decent drives that ended in some points - our defense could have potentially played better where they might not have been gassed or were more inspired. Obviously, this works both ways for each unit but I can also mention the corollary for the offense where we have: our Franchise QB TLaw, ETN, CKirk, Gabe Davis, BTJ who could have generated some type of momentum on offense as well, right?

The defense has sucked and I was in the camp thinking they would be average or serviceable this year, where they could perhaps hold teams enough so that our hypothetical high-powered offense could out-score teams. Clearly that isn't the case - and I'm talking about the offense. Like everyone else who has chimed in, our serviceable defense held the Dolphins, who were healthy across the board, and the Browns to manageable scores.

The common denominator is this offense continuing to flounder around in each game - and I'll spare us all the heartache of me posting total scores and the trend downwards since we should all hopefully be well aware about how bad it is.

The 2024 Jacksonville Jaguars first 3 games should be studied by PhD level sports psychologists...

I swear to the big guy upstairs, that ETN fumble in the 3rd Quarter in Miami completely destroyed this team.  Since that fumble, we have been watching a slow procession to the grave that is this current record we have.

Can we turn it around?  Is there a chance for a resurgence of animation from this team?  Time will tell.  But if you go back and rewatch the broad cast of the Miami game, that fumble was like a dagger to the heart and soul of the entire team.  Offense, defense, and the coaches.  It would make for a hell of a dissertation.  And if not that, then a new age Shakespearian tragedy.

ABOUT US
The Jungle Forums is the Jaguars' biggest fan message board. Talking about the Jags since 2006, the Jungle was the team-endorsed home of all things Jaguars.

Since 2017, the Jungle is now independent of the team but still run by the same crew. We are here to support and discuss all things Jaguars and all things Duval!
