Offensive Line 2024

We're now short Cooper Hodges and maybe Mitch Morse if he's in concussion protocol.

This year is beginning to feel more hushed and grim. Lawrence using his legs more today was nice to see but he has to protect himself.

Wasn't a fan of that blow he took on that running dive earlier in this game.

Same here, can someone explain to me why that was not called targeting, roughing the passer etc, especially when it was helmet to helmet and did leave our QB a tad worse for wear

Anyways it sucks with the OLine, we r down to sticks

Who took Cooper's place?

Doug in the second half became more dejected the more the offense was successful. I have posted my opinion elsewhere on this.

That LB better watch himself every team will know about it and he just may find the rest of the way a bit rough. Players know who is out trying hurt guys and police it over time. The hit was uncalled for end of story.

I had two doubles as soon as it turned 1700 hours and I was off the clock from home. I was pretty tame yesterday. Didn't get into my usual tangents. I expected us to lose this game though so it didn't sting as much. This team needs a culture change and they need to get tougher in my opinion. Doug doesn't have that in his DNA. I am ready for a full sweep.

Who took Cooper's place?

Blake Hance went from Street to Starter in 2.5 quarters of football.

Damn bro, that was the 1st game you expected us to lose lol.  I expect us to lose every game with this coaching staff,  until they are gone ill be shocked if we win another game.  Maye looks good and I wouldn't be surprised if they win another game and put us in spot to have the number 1 pick.

Next question: did the line get worse then? If not, what does that say about the state of the line?

Didn't see that during the game, didn't need another excuse to pour a bourbon. Yay.

You're right, Trevor needs to start hook sliding, that extra yard ain't worth giving Mac the rest of the day's reps

You could say it didn't stagnate. The offense was nonexistent until desperation time set in, then suddenly we figured out that getting first downs is actually kinda good.

Do I want to spend the rest of the season with Hance at LG, not one bit. Cleveland needs to heal up quick.

The line didn't have its best game yesterday but the Eagles D line is a good one. Jalen Carter is extremely disruptive and both tackles had issues with their ends. Hance played pretty well in preseason, so the drop off wasn't huge, but losing Cleveland (who's been playing pretty good) and then Hodges (who we hope is the future at RG) puts Hance next to Little and that wasn't a good combo IMO. I'm sure the player grades will come out and say they were terrible, but they weren't any worse than any other game this year I think. We have interior problems on both of our lines even after we went and got "bigger and stronger", almost like it didn't work or something. Hodges got his first start, but it's clear that he's both still pretty green AND already a better run blocker than Scherff. That injury looked more like a fracture than a ligament, so hopefully it's something that will heal well and he can win the RG job outright next season. We must find another tackle and another center this offseason, and another guard if Hodges can't make it back. If Javon Foster can develop into our RT then I think flipping Anton to his natural left side and drafting a new swing is the way to go, but this team never uses linemen the way I think they should.

Sum: 3 of the 5 line positions need attention this offseason. This team has gone too long with the like of Hance, Fortner, and Cole Van Lanen as their back up plans.

I don't have that number, but looking at splits by field position we can get some pretty telling info:

Rush attempts inside the 10 yard line:
24 ATTEMPTS - 5 TDs

Pass inside the 10:
20 attempts - 6 TDs

If you move back to include the entire redzone in these numbers  -  then there are EIGHTY more pass attempts but only 3 additional TDs -

OOOF!

That's 122 pass attempts inside the 20 and only 9 touchdowns as a result.
Gotta be one of the worst percentages in the league for RZ scoring.

Luckily they do better with the run this year than last when near the goal line.

Seems like an indictment of QB play more than anything.  Pass plays in the tight red zone are not more complicated, in terms of strategy, but the timing and accuracy becomes much more critical.

I hate saying that.  We know Trevor has to play better. It's not all his fault but some of it is.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

You know what else helps in the Red Zone? Being able to grind out 3 or 4 yards on the ground instead of always having to try to throw it to score. How many of those rushing TDs belong to the QB? at least half, right? When they can rush 3 and drop 8 around the end zone and STILL get to the QB then the chances of the pass working are pretty slim.

Hodges gets his first start, our highest rated player and now out for the season.

Yeah. I am not going to lie man. I was really high on this team during the summer. I expected them to beat the Dolphins in the opener on the road. I expected them to figure out a way to beat the Flaccoless Browns. Historically they were always good or lucky against the Bills. We split the series last year with the tinhorns and had already beat them in Houston the last time we played them. We always have the clots number at home. I expected them to get after Caleb Williams and the Bears with London advantage. I expected them to beat the Patriots.

Right around week eight is where I felt, realistically, things would get difficult and where I started looking at losses on paper when I saw this schedule. Because the Packers were good last year. So were the Eagles. After the Vikings let Cousins walk I figured we would have a shot. Didn't expect Darnold to get red hot nor for Brian Flores to make that defense look as good as it has this year minus Danielle Hunter.

The Lions were a loss to me. That's the NFC favorite right now. We might beat the tinhorns at home in December. The tacks are always tough. They proved it time and time again. The Jets looked like a 50/50 game even with high expectations and before things got ugly with Saleh. It probably still is. Same goes for the Raiders. That then leaves the other two games with the tacks and clots to close out the season.

So, yeah, again, I think I had these sorry [BLEEP] tagged to win at least 10 games this year. Didn't expect them to [BLEEP] lose 10 instead. That's for sure.

I kept telling these guys that the coaching wasn't good enough... I kept saying something was wrong.

At least the base is finally figuring it out. It's not Lawrence. It's not really even the players that are here. There is more talent on this roster than there is dead weight. Yeah, Baalke needs to go. But I've been calling out the red flags since last year. This team is a rudderless ship because there is not direction from the HC and his coordinators.

I think with the way this season has gone. And what our current O line situation is with age and injuries and contract… it might be time to kill this thread and start the O Line 2025 thread.

This group had about run its course… time to start thinking about building a new core up front going forward
