GOP Sweep

#1

It is over. The GOP will control both the Senate, House and Presidency.  The only thing left to determine is by how much.

Hopefully they don't squander it away.  So far with the appointments to cabinet positions it doesn't look like it.  I'm so glad to see appointments based on merit rather than DEI.

Keep an eye on these popular vote numbers and see if they keep matching the Presidential result.

Not so. A lot of the ones that voted for AOC were her customers when she was a barkeeper. She was a good one.  Problem is Kamella never tended bar.

His first act should be voting reform.

Federally mandated ID
Voter Verification
Federal holidays for voting
Mandatory time off to vote.
3-5 day window to vote
Paper ballot (that can be scanned)
In person voting unless military stationed outside state or documented hardship
No ballot harvesting

I'm not opposed to any of those, but I would be a no until you add anti gerrymandering measures, and ranked choice voting.

The rules for redistricting should be very simple. Draw the shortest lines possible, that make as much use as possible of existing city and county lines, but no line may cross any minorty-majority area unless that minority-majority area is too big for one district. (Note the Democrats in 2021 tried to pass a version of this but it was more complicated and still allowed bizarre districts to be drawn if DoJ thought you had a good reason)

It is an absolute travesty that a party can win a majority of seats in a legislature, while a majority of voters voted for the other party. That should never happen. That is not democracy. Yet it happens every cycle in one state or another.

The ranked choice voting thing is similar.  Let the parties still have their primary election, but the Republican and the Democrat that win those primaries should have to face independent candidates with a ranked choice ballot in the general election.

A 3-5 window is fine however it opens up a temptation to people. You vote is both public and private. Public in that anyone can access a list of who voted, but not who they voted for. If you allow 3-5 days both parties will monitor. Can you imagine what days 4 and 5 would be like?  This is already a tumultuous time, let's not ramp it up more. If someone was able to hack and see results it could be even worse.  LOL
