Walmart just leveled with Americans: China won’t be paying for Trump’s tariffs
|
Both Canada and Mexico have threatened counter-tariffs.
https://www.newsweek.com/canada-donald-t...ng-1992034 Canadian officials slammed U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's tariff plan this week, calling it "insulting." https://apnews.com/article/mexico-tariff...de7332b74a President Claudia Sheinbaum suggested Tuesday that Mexico could retaliate with tariffs of its own, after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose 25% import duties on Mexican goods if the country doesn’t stop the flow of drugs and migrants across the border. Whether this is enough to avoid tariffs we will see. Not exactly. She didn't say Mexico was going to stop them. She said Mexico had already stopped them. Mexico suggests it would impose its own tariffs to retaliate against any Trump tariffs | AP News MEXICO CITY (AP) — President Claudia Sheinbaum suggested Tuesday that Mexico could retaliate with tariffs of its own, after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose 25% import duties on Mexican goods if the country doesn’t stop the flow of drugs and migrants across the border. Advertisement Sheinbaum said she was willing to engage in talks on the issues, but said drugs were a U.S. problem. “One tariff would be followed by another in response, and so on until we put at risk common businesses,” Sheinbaum said, referring to U.S. automakers that have plants on both sides of the border. She said Tuesday that Mexico had done a lot to stem the flow of migrants, noting “caravans of migrants no longer reach the border.”
Amazing what one tweet at 2am in the morning woke up everyone. What is going to occur will be sorted out as the negotiations begin. What is the value to us? Well, how much do you value the lives of Americans that are robbed, raped and killed by these people that enter our country illegally? If this hasn't touched your life I am happy for you. Put yourself in some else's shoes that it has or go talk to someone that it has.

WOW, not even president and Trump having an effect. Whether this is enough to avoid tariffs we will see." But what she actually said was "caravans of migrants no longer reach the border." So her statement wasn't a result of Trump exercising American power. She was simply saying, "We've already done that." I'm not saying we shouldn't make much more effort to get the border closed. I'm just calling out bull [BLEEP]. This was not a case of Mexico bowing down to Trump's threats. In fact, if you see what else she said, it was the opposite.

She wanted to work with him. They would accept Mexican deportees and a bunch more. The Canadian PM said he had a good talk (2 hours after the tweet) with Trump and he was willing to work to overcome the issues. There are a lot of snippets from both sides of the aisle reporting a bunch of stuff. No one knows what either of these people said to Trump. None of the posters here including me knows how this will shake out. What they can do is engage in histrionics, try to divide people, maybe scare people, that kind of thing. One thing that has been made clear. The time of pretending to stop the people crossing the border and fentanyl is over. This does make good copy and clickbait. PS I reported what was said on the news.

The people who lecture to us on a regular basis about economics don't know what supply and demand is; they sure as hell aren't gonna know how tariffs work. He actually thinks this mean that Trump's tariffs will lead Walmart and only Walmart to raise prices. And if you asked him, he probably also thinks that American-produced goods won't also go up in price simply because if everything imported goes up then sellers of American goods can get away with it too. This is why they want to get rid of DOE, folks; why they want public monies to pay for private religious 'educations': gotta keep growing new generations of people who are proud not to understand how anything works. It's like a rehash of grade school, where the way to prove you were cool was to make a show of being clueless (because only nerds know answers). We're kinda being stupid in thinking that someone whose most complicated economic analysis is "Eggs cost more. Who is president?" could possibly understand tariffs, and worse, that someone who is actually proud of it might bring themselves to admit fault upon having the errors of their ways explained to them. Sorry 149, next time maybe consider the actual argument being made before calling your opponent stupid. If he's just stupid, he's very INefficient at it, what with how long his posts are.
