With a TD it is 16, so it doesn't hurt to miss the 2pt. It doesn't really help either though because there is so little time left. The thought is you can give up a TD and still be 2 scores down if you get the 2pts.

If we score, we have to go for 2 just to make up what we lost, so that we are only down a field goal. It doesn't make sense. Take the 1 both times.

That said, it SHOULDN'T be affecting game outcomes. That is crazy scandalous, because coaches should have ZERO incentive to do anything but win.

Look at the number of 2pt conversions and weird 4th down attempts this year. At times when they make absolutely no sense. It's uncanny how betting gets popular and all of sudden coaches are YOLO'ing their strategy calls.

It's hard for a player to dive on a game.  He has to use his whole body.  Goes against all muscle memory, instincts, and pride.  Plus it could look obvious.
Meanwhile, if a coach wants to throw a game, he just has to use his voice. Make some bad play calls and odd substitutions.  Hmmmmm.....
