Trevor Lawrence: Franchise QB (TL Discussion, Merged Threads)

Off setting penalties which [BLEEP] us yardage wise (we got nothing from that dirty [BLEEP] cheap shot hit). We lost 2 players and they lost 1 (our franchise QB being #1 which is the main). The trash [BLEEP] tinhorns made out like bandits on that bull [BLEEP].

This is why we can’t let Evan Engram go under any circumstances, hes one of the only guys who feels like a true man on the offense. He has alpha male instincts of reacting to the dirty hit

One of the talking heads said last night that past behavior will be taken into consideration when assessing disciplinary actions.

I am still debating in my mind what is worse- the second half vs texans with zero passion/anger/energy or the 52-6 loss against Lions. The immediate response was great, but truly expected the defense to make some big hits, maybe an unnecessary roughness, a late hit out of bounds. Something? Anything. Don't believe Stroud was even touched in the second half. You can do things within the rules to retaliate without it being cheap shots where the intent is injury, which I'd never advocate for. We lack any sort of toughness and physicality from a football team. It's pretty sad tbh.

They definitely need that, but I honestly don't know what EVP/GM/HC option out there would provide that.
  • Mike Vrabel, Vance Joseph, and Brian Flores would provide the toughness/grit and could turn around the defense, but they aren't the offensive guys to help fix Trev. They would need to know who their top 3 choices for OC would be and who they would target as OL/QB/WR coaches to have a pipeline in place once that OC would inevitably leave to be a HC.
  • Jesse Minter is an interesting name but again he is a defensive guy plus he is raw and it is unclear how much of his success is due to Harbaugh.
  • Monken, Coen, Brady and Johnson all seem more like X&O's schemers and come off as players coaches sort of like Mike McDaniel. Some were dropped into pre-built offensive squads like Monken and Coen so we don't really know how good they will be at creating/designing a squad here. For the others it is unclear how much influence guys like and Brady and Johnson had on roster construction and selection, though you could argue they have been great at identifying their players strengths and maximizing them. It also helps that many of these guys have top offensive lines.
  • Adam Stenavich is an interesting name with more a bully ball history, but how much does he really do under LaFleur with game planning, play calling, and team construction.
  • Kingsbury is an absolute no for me. I've followed him since he was at UofH (my brothers college), A&M (my college), and Tech (my dad's college). Yes he can design a reasonable offensive fastball around his personnel to start a season, but he absolutely cannot design the necessary off speed pitches over the course of the season once he get scouted. It happens basically every season. His teams just have ceiling he cannot exceed.
  • Bellicheck is over the hill and has a 3-4 year hard limit til he gets his record. Jags don't need a stop gap. They need a guy who can be here for a decade if things work out.

I guess they could go against grain and try a special teams guy. There are a number of extremely highly regarded guys around the league like Rich Bisaccia and Dave Toub. It is hard to evaluate them because they are pure culture guys, and you have heavily interview people who worked with them to truly understand their process and people skills. Plus even more than the defensive coaches above, they have to have the top 3 choices and pipeline plan in place for both DC and OC.

When considering this you have to flip it around and say, what would you want if it was your player who did the cheap shot on their team as far as suspension. So what if a jag player did this? Just to keep it a little fair.

I would want the same of our guy if he was a dirty cheap shot artist. I kinda want azeez to get his bell rung into next year just so he gets a taste of what he's been dishing out. That's 1000% perfectly fair. There's no teal glasses here, it was an avoidable hit, and I have zero respect for any subhuman that is going to try and intentionally do physical harm to a person just for wearing different laundry than they do.

Same way I felt about Vontaze Burfict, Bill Romanowski, Jack Tatum. Fair enough?

At the very least they should have been post-play offsetting penalties, isn't a play dead once a QB begins the hook slide?

So they fine him 100K instead of 50?

He should be placed on the Commissioner's exempt list. We can discuss sometime next season whether he can in the future play again.

Ryans should also be disciplined for these remarks.

This clowns deserves to be banned for a whole year at least. 3 games, what a [BLEEP] joke.

So he's appealing his 3 game suspension for that blatant hit on TL16.

An intentional dirty hit trying to injure a player... let's imagine Trev has a permanent brain injury and never plays again, now what?

That dirty player also says he is being attacked because he's muslim.  GTFO.

Yes this play has made me question the entire thing somewhat. Is this sport worth it? I’m sure I’ll keep watching, but allowing someone to possibly be permanently injured with a tbi on dirty play, with only 3 game suspension is pretty bad.

I wonder how much of a suspension he would get if he KO'ed Patrick Mahomes?

No defending what Texans 0 did, but the NCAA has a rule against fake slides and the NFL does not. You can't strike a player's head with your arm regardless, but the possibility that Trevor might have been faking the slide did make it harder for 0 to do his job.

too dumb to realize he's being attacked because he's an [BLEEP].
Then he plays the religion card. Typical [BLEEP] move.

Refs have whistles.

Simple as you appear to initiate a hook slide, ref blows the whistle. Play is dead just as if you did hook slide. If the shield truly cares about player safety, there is no argument against the practice, no need to make the rulebook any thicker.

Same difference.  The refs are taught to not blow the whistle until the ball carrier's butt is down though.  That could change, as you suggest, whether or not the rule book gets thicker.  I'd rather make it a rule though, because that way if the whistle is late it can be corrected in review.
