Cleveland matches Jags offer for Mack
|
Quote:Can the Jags create a contract then re-structure it after Mack signs? IDK if something like that is legal, and it would require an unwritten agreement, but if Mack really wants out of Cleveland and its allowed.... The Jags will have to watch it to not get too fancy here....don't want to have the league or NFLPA come after us later because of some shady dealings, and then possibly lose future draft picks... I think the way KyJag suggests is a good idea - put a lot of the money in 2015 when the Browns key free agents are due to be paid. We show less advertisements to registered users. Can anyone name a better center in the league?
Under 30? Available (draft or FA)? Is it your money? I rest my case.

Fortunately, I think next year the only contract that might cost even a little is CSIII and even that should be manageable, especially if he continues to play like he has, good but not great. Russell Allen is just a guy. Not bad, but not going to command any real money to keep.

― Albert Camus Quote:He's a Center. 29 for a Center is not 29 for a RB....Look at the career Meester had - and to be honest, he was only "average" and lasted that long. If Mack stays healthy, he could play at a fairly high level into his mid-upper 30's. In 2013, Dominic Raiola had his best of his 13 NFL seasons despite being 34 years old. To the point that PFF ranked him as the # 2 Center in the NFL for his 2013 performance. There's indeed no question that Alex Mack can be very effective for many more seasons if he stays relatively healthy.
They are carefully planning something. For an offer not to be on the table by now. And though cap wise looks like cant match. Tax wise we are actually ahead of the curve.
For instance if you take ct my old home. And the prices through the roof and taxes sky high. Compared to down south. Makes a world of a difference. 15 dollars in ct is equal to 22 down south. Due to extremely high taxes and cost of living. However Mack has to feel deep inside that the contract benefits him and he wont be stuck in Browns purgatory forever.

Likely, they didn't just come out and offer him a bunch of money in order to drive the price down. I don't think they are too worried about Cleveland matching.
If the Jaguars offer a contract and it is accepted how long do the Browns have to make a decision?

Also, if the Browns match, Mack can still choose which he wants right? Is he stuck there if they match us?
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Quote:Yes, he will be stuck there.Which is what makes it very scary and risky for Mack, if it's true that he doesn't want to be in Cleveland. He signs somewhere he wants to be, Cleveland matches, he's stuck where he doesn't want to be for years and years. It's a tricky situation for all involved. Quote:http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...-a-second/ "If the Browns were to use the transition tag or franchise tag next year on Mack, the price for either one would be $12 million — which means he would have made his $22 million in only two years, not three." I'm confused. I didn't think you could get tagged two years in a row? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

They might be considered different tags. This could also be smoke. If you make another team think that there is no way they would be able to get him for that amount, maybe they won't try. Unnamed sources are always tricky.

I believe they can be tagged two years in a row but not three anymore. *EDIT* It looks like they can be tagged a 3rd time but the team has to pony up a large amount of money to keep the player. If this link is correct, it explains a lot. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/19607...cess-works Quote:Which is what makes it very scary and risky for Mack, if it's true that he doesn't want to be in Cleveland. Mack's agent and Caldwell are going to have to really think this through before an offer is made. Like the article said, it may be better for him to just roll with the transition tag so he is guaranteed to get out of there sooner. I'm sure Mack won't sign a contract unless he thinks he it has a high percentage of succeeding.
TMD, what the hecks going on! I find myself agreeing with everything you are saying, apocolypse?

There is beauty in this negotiation with Mack.
1. The Jags Sign Him: A tremendous upgrade to our offensive line. We need a player who can lead these young guys. Mack and Beadles along with a young Joeckle sounds like a very good start. 2. The Jags Don't sign him. If the Jags throw an offer and the Browns match it still forces another afc team to use cap space. That could benefit the Jags going into the next offseason. ![]() Quote:I thought about posting a new thread about State Tax ramifications concerning Alex Mack. Great post, thanks. |
