Welcome Brian Thomas Jr. Jags new star receiver

(This post was last modified: 12-16-2024, 09:25 AM by flgatorsandjags.)

Just think if the Bills drafted BTJ. Man he got lucky he fell to us. BTJ would probably have 1200-1300 yrds right now if he was on Buf.

So glad they Colts didn't draft him as well who was 1 spot ahead of us.

Yeah, but he'd be so cold out there...  Plus he could still get 1,200 yards for the season.  But I get what you're saying.  It's a shame we suck.  But he could be the guy that helps turn things around once Trevor is healthy and has better support on the O-Line and front office and coaching staff.

He shoulda actually be sitting on 10 TDs right now. He should have had came down with that in the left endzone. He knew it as soon as he hit the ground.

Heck of a throw by Jones.

Thomas also dropped a huge 3rd and 10 that he allowed to get in on him before he got his head around. Gotta have both of those.

By season 2 or 3 this dude is going to be an All Pro. I noticed he adjusted his stance by standing almost straight up pre-snap which enables him to use his footwork and body lean more to get into his route much sooner.

More WRs across the league are going to start using his style instead of getting a huge split like receivers are taught in high school.

Mans is the real deal.

Our 23rd pick shows why draft position does not matter. Our 23rd pick has played much better than all the top 10 picks we have made in recent memory.

He’s the only reason I still tune in on Sundays. Hopefully we shore up the interior of the O line and give him some help opposite side at receiver and him and Trev will be fun to watch for the next half decade at least.

Would love to see Parker Washington have a few more big games. Not sure if he is really good enough to be the number 2 or not. I agree having someone else other than Gabe Davis will be key.

I think Parker is going to develop into a nice slot receiver but we need another outside threat to compliment BTJ. Would love Tee Higgins. I think both Kirk and Davis will be gone in the offseason.

They can't get rid of Davis unless someone will trade for him and they keep part of the dead money. If they do anything Post June 1 with him this year then it's $14.6 million against the 2026 cap. He's 99% certain to be on this roster next year, Baalke won't move him if he stays and a new GM won't hamstring himself in Year 2 that way. Better to just keep him as your #4 and move on after 2025 I think.

It's an expensive #4, but you're right there no way to get out of it. I can't imagine a team is going to be interested in splitting the dead money after the season he just had.

Best case scenario with Gabe Davis is that he looks better after healing up and being sorted into a new offense at #4WR next Summer/Fall.

Maybe good enough that a trade partner emerges when another team suffers injury at the position.

It sucks they overpaid for him, but at this the point you gotta salvage something from the bad deal best you can.

The bad part is Armstead is on a similar deal and similar production. We're stuck with both next year.

Play Armstrong at three technique and watch that production improve.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

BT Jr clip

To piggy back on this post, this angle of that 2nd TD catch BTJ had really shows just how bad he cooked dude off the line. Dude is WIDE open and it isn't even close. Dude is a total match up problem and that's great for us.

They've made that adjustment already. (he has played more snaps inside for two weeks now)
So far, so bad.

Look at how wide open BTJ is in the end zone. If Mac could see the field better that's an easy TD. He has plenty of time to make the read and the throw, but instead makes his usual check down pass and doesn't even look towards BTJ.

And Mac self sacked himself on the play right before this instead of throwing it out of bounds.

Adding another deep thread to compliment btj in thr draft would be huge

It would -

But - Even just an above average route runner with above average speed and enough size to play the Z or the X would do wonders.  Think Zay Jones with better hands/consistency.

The X is rarely going to be able to go in motion due to L.o.S. formation rules. BTJ is our primary X as of now, and they have to move him to Z or Y when they want to motion him or gadget play him.

I'd say if they can find (at minimum) a guy that's 6'1" or better, 195# or better, and speedy enough to get solid separation - then they will be able to free up BTJ often enough and still be dangerous at intermediate and underneath routes when he gets doubled or bracketed. The new guy is your Z receiver but able to readily interchange with BTJ when they get creative with the playcalling.

Just my longwinded way of saying we don't necessarily need a 6'4" - 215 pound - sub 4.4 running, freak-show to be able to be really dangerous as a receiving corps.
