More than a dozen European countries used to have wealth taxes, but nearly all of these countries repealed them, including Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Sweden. Wealth taxes survive only in Norway, Spain, and Switzerland.

Yet for little revenue, wealth taxes are difficult to administer and enforce. They may require taxpayers to report the values of financial securities, homes, furniture, artwork, jewelry, antiques, vehicles, boats, pension rights, family businesses, farm assets, land, intellectual property, and much else. But owners do not know the market values of many assets, and values change over time, so costly wealth-tax compliance would only make accountants wealthy.

You claimed wealth taxes cannot be implemented. I showed they not only can but have been in many countries. You did not respond to those facts, you tried to change the topic to there being some challenges and some countries repealing the taxes.

That's not honest discussion.

Your source also looks wrong. Mine said some countries had moved to wealth taxes on certain types of wealth; your source claims they abolished the tax entirely. Your claim was that a wealth tax isn't practical to have. I showed countries have it (and many more than you listed). Discussing problems with the tax is another topic. The US could have a wealth tax, and it's not socialism, another point you did not respond to.

I never said a wealth tax was socialism.

I never said a wealth tax could not be implemented.  My point was that it is too difficult, and probably not workable.  And I detailed all the reasons.

This article articulates my points pretty well.  Why Europe Axed Its Wealth Taxes | Cato Institute

I know you are going to ignore it, but maybe other people reading this thread will read that article and absorb some of the points it makes.

Beautiful. This is the way you respond when you clearly do not know how to read.

It's ok DOOF, no one cares what you think. As soon as you defend the ridiculous size and scope of our federal government it's clear that it's a waste a time to debate policy with you. You're just going to have to accept that that boots you lick today are going to be a few sizes smaller tomorrow.. You getting 4 years of Trump's Starry Nights is just the icing for us to enjoy.

His statements about taxing wealth have nothing to do with Trump.
Stop making everything about Trump! People might start to say you have TDS or something.

Your "whine more" indicated that you enjoy what you call my whining.  My "whine more" indicates that I enjoy your alleged lack of enjoyment.

Another difference: you were actually whining about how I use this board.  I was suggesting ways we could make this board better.

You so suck at this, it’s almost comical at this point. Me pointing out that you whined like a little [BLEEP] about rep points like they actually matter is not whining. And me adding “whine more” was what I knew was going to happen, not me telling you to continue, it was just me acknowledging that you would indeed continue.

No one wants or needs your help with how we handle this board. We have a staff and you ain’t it. So you can stop trying so damn hard to be it.  Cool

No one wants or needs your help with how we handle this board. We have a staff and we don't have the time or energy to do anything about the constant insults.  While we could obviously use some new blood, we just don't care enough to recruit anyone or think about who it should be. So you can stop trying so damn hard to be it.  Cool

How many times do you have to be told that this section on the board is the Wild West? Use at your own risk. If you can’t handle it, maybe you should meander over to a less threatening section of the board where your delicate sensibilities aren’t so put upon.
Don’t like it, you don’t have to post here. Feel free to see yourself out.

And let me put a disclaimer out to you and anyone else who might feel the need to try to moderate the board. We have had posters on have tried doing that before. They no longer have posting privileges. This is not a threat to anyone at all, just a warning on how trying to put on a mod hat is handled. Just don’t do it.
