The whole point of the protest was to show displeasure at the way the system handled the election. Where I disagree with Mikey (and where I think it's important to disagree), is that (1) it's not insurrection to protest in a way that disrupts the process. (2) MOST people in that building were not trying to overthrow the US government. It was first and foremost and attempt to remind the congress that (3) the people felt unheard and ignored, and it's not ok to just trample on those feelings with zero repercussions.

(1) It depends which process we are disrupting and why.

(2) They were all trying to prevent Biden from taking office.  Biden had won the election. The President is the head of the government. Preventing the guy who won from taking office as President is overthrowing the government, full stop.

(3) People feel that way for various reasons all the time.  These particular people only felt that way at that time because Trump lied. The members of Congress mostly knew it was all lies.
