I disagree, I don't think 32 GMs would. I don't think 32 GMs would say you would have a better chance of improving their record if picking 3rd or 7th or 8th, if any GM would say that.  Some teams pick 32nd have better drafts than the team picking 1st.  It's all about the GM.

You make a good point. The good teams constantly draft near the bottom but remain good teams. Look at the Rams who barely has had any draft picks the last few years and they are the 3 seed right now.

Actually...it's all about the coach and the QB.   The Rams have a great head coach, and their QB is one of the better throwers of the football in the league.   The coach designs plays for their best players.

That should only matter if this were the NFC North or the AFC North.   Otherwise, being the second best in arguably the worst division in history shouldn't matter much.

That's just false.  It's illogical to believe that owning the 7th overall pick is just as good as the 3rd overall pick.  If nothing else, you can trade down from the 3rd pick to the 7th pick and acquire additional picks.  If you don't think having additional draft picks is an advantage in the NFL, I don't know what to say.  That's just common sense.

Also keep in mind that it affects next year's schedule.  If we win, instead of playing Chicago (4-12) and Cleveland (3-12), we will play Green Bay (11-4) and Cincinnati (8-8).  You don't think one pair of teams is a little tougher than the other?

If you want to get back to the playoffs as soon as possible, a loss today helps our odds.  That's just reality.

A lot of people seem to have trouble understanding that winning teams and eliminated teams aren't playing for the same thing.

The players on the field may still think winning is what they should be playing for, but from an organizational standpoint losing and draft position should be the objective when a team isn't in contention for postseason.

Yeah, it's amazing that some people can't understand.  Oh well.  As they say, you can't argue with stupid.

Let's face it, we're not really tanking. This isn't a team in a rebuild year, we're just a bad team this year. We have so many areas to improve on the roster and a high draft pick is what you use that on. Saves you overpaying in FA and gives you a player in that position to improve for the next 3-4 years. 

Spending it on a position the franchise has already heavily invested in would be an incredibly dumb move.

It's also illogical to believe the 3rd pick will have compensatory benefits the 7th doesn't when the final draft order and what prospect is/isn't available is not established. It's illogical to believe that playing one set of teams will be easier than playing the other set when it's nearly a year before those games will be played. Due to these factors you believe a loss today helps our odds return to the playoffs ASAP, that belief is, as a belief, assumptive and not logical. Therefore, it is not based in reality.
