Saved me from typing that. And there are others. There's no right or wrong train of thought when it comes to hiring a HC. I admit that Lafleur and McVay are elite, but I think they are outliers. Maybe Canales and Callahan will prove me wrong in time. Mike McDaniel and Josh McDaniels set the young guns back, however. I'm leaning Aaron Glenn.
If Coen and Salah are a package deal...I'm all for Coen. Defensive focus has to be somewhere on the cards. The Jags have been 9-8, 9-8 and 4-13 with the biggest culprit in the loses being the Jags inability to consistently stop teams when they need to. The first 9-8 season...Rayshaun's lucky interception, Lamarr Jackson running out of time and their great kicker missing a long kick... Defense will help Trevor. A run game will help Trevor. Which coach will focus on those two areas...I'm all in with.

Brandon Scherff is no longer that dude. Next season I want him gone.

In addition, you're going to be in the AFC West, the division that just yielded the best team overall record wise, including two additional play off teams with stout defenses to contest with. Unless it's just the idea of maybe being around or working with Tom Brady. That team also has no QB and there's no guarantee you'll land the right one in the draft come April. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I would also point out that with the Raiders picking 6th and there being maybe two good quarterbacks, I think it's extremely doubtful that they find a good QB in the draft.

Johnson would probably have fun with Bowers as a play caller for sure. It would just be difficult carving out a path in the play-off's when you're contesting with the Chiefs and what looks like bright futures with the Chargers with Harbaugh and the Broncos with Payton. It's just a stacked division with not only great rosters and football talent but also some of the best coaching in the business with a lot of know-how and staying power. I just don't see it being the best bet if I am a coaching candidate right now. Feels like he'd get chewed up and spit out quickly out west. I would take the Jets or Patriots job over the Raiders job personally. I would stay away from Chicago for the same reason I would stay away from Las Vegas. Just too damn stacked division wise to carve a path out. The path of least resistance is in the AFC South in my opinion and it starts here in Jacksonville. I would also want the crown personally, of, being THE coach that maximized Trevor Lawrence and elevated him to where he should have been all along as an elite NFL caliber QB. Ben Johnson can do that. Joe Brady can do that. Liam Coen can do that. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. Ben is everyone's first pick. But there are are a few more good options out there if Ben picks with his heart (love for Tommy Massage) instead of his head. It's not like Ben Johnson is the only top tier young coaching prospect out there... Plus, depending on how fickle Pittsburg is, there may be a certain veteran HC that may come available... I don't know that it would have been that particular selling point driving Ben prior to the interview, but if Brady was in on the interview, and why wouldn't you want him to be if you were Mark Davis, I can completely see Brady selling the idea of coaching the Raiders well.

But let's face it, the dude is intelligent and still has major respect throughout the NFL world (Media, players, owners, etc..). It would be enticing to go there and get input from the so called GOAT. But I'm with Caldrac, why would anyone want to go into that buzz-saw of a division. You'd be playing for Wildcard spots for the foreseeable future. Plus there is no QB there, there is no QB in the draft, and there isn't a QB in free agency that would elevate the Raiders to become a contender any time soon. It's not the most ideal landing place for a first time HC... In my opinion.
The good thing is he hasn't interviewed with us yet, that happens tonight. He could just be saying this to keep us on our toes and see what we got to offer.

I know this guy that works at Publix, while I was ordering my sub, he told me Ben Johnson was taking a dump while the Bears were asking him about his 5 year plan. |
