A situation with Anton Harrison
|
I feel he's settling in just fine. But, I had a thought about how the new staff will evaluate the OL. If, in the case, the Jaguars take BAP and it happens to be an OT. Do they move Anton Harrison to RG? I know RG needs to be upgrade. During the draft process, analysts felt that Anton could slide into guard at the next level.
This is just a thought. I would prefer he stays outside at RT. And just grab an upgrade either in FA or the draft in the early rounds. I'll put a poll up. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

The tackles and left guard are set for next season, we'll have a new starter at right guard and a guy in the wings at the minimum for center. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
I think if we get a stud run blocking RG that has solid or better pass pro - and leave Anton at RT we won't need to worry much about the right side

There was a play against the Colts in the last game, where Blake Hance reported as eligible, and we had the usual offensive line, but with Hance lined up to the right of Harrison, and we ran the ball right behind Harrison and Hance for 11 yards. That's not exactly putting Harrison at G, but it does show what he can do when lined up inside a tackle to his right.

I was watching the Eagles yesterday, and thinking, oh, God, why can't we ever have an offensive line like that? They got Becton from the Jets, who was an OT, and they put him at RG, and as a result, their running backs average 2 yards before contact, which is first in the league. They had the fewest pass attempts per game this year. It must be so easy to play QB in that situation. Harrison was pretty underwhelming this year, but that applies to the whole team. The whole team was pretty underwhelming this year, so that gives me hope the fault doesn't lie with Harrison, but with the coaching staff.

The entire offensive line was underwhelming this season. Which is wild to think because at times they did look better as an overall unit compared to the last two years. The running game was non existent as well, so, the fact that we allowed the most pressures tells me this team couldn't do [BLEEP] right per usual.
1st in pressure rate allowed by a unit. 21st in yards per pass attempt. 22nd in 3rd down conversion rate as a unit. Dead last in the most important aspect of today's pass happy era in the NFL and towards the bottom in moving the chains on the most important down in this sport. It's clear we have concerns at LT, C & RG. I don't see the point in moving Harrison in year three. Scherff needs to go. Morse needs somebody behind him in the hopper ready to overtake him outright for the job this summer or at least be ready to go by 2026. Little has shown no history of being able to stay healthy during a full regular season. This is why I circle back to Baalke on this subject as well. Because people are under the impression that Pederson is to blame for some of it. While I agree, to an extent. Baalke at some point has to step in and say what's better for the team based on his evaluations and not the coaches. So, all in all. You drafted Walker Little and traded Cam Robinson which feels like a move that should have happened two years ago. You signed Ezra Cleveland. You drafted Luke Fortner and failed and replaced him with Mitch Morse. You signed an over the hill and oft injured Brand Scherff. You let JaWaan Taylor walk and replaced him with Anton Harrison. You traded for Cole Van Lanen awhile back, you drafted Cooper Hodges in RD7 and you drafted Javon Foster in RD4. Just not a ton to like about this line at all. ALL of these moves, time spent and investments made with a continued DECREASE in overall play, durability and reliability as a unit. That's awful. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. In fairness, Scherff was a fine signing at the time, there's no way we should've paid Taylor what he got from the chefs, and Harrison was a great prospect for the cost. The issue was the refusal to move on from Scherff, Robinson, and in some ways Fortner when it was clearly time. As a result we have big holes in those two positions in the middle. We don't know what if anything we have in Hodges and Foster yet, CVL played fine in relief this year and Hance remains the bubble "just a guy" guy. Going into next season we have Little, Cleveland, Harrison, and Foster under longer term deals; everyone else is either a free agent or on their last year. Hodges has two years left, but his contract is meaningless to the cap. It's time for fresh blood in that room with at least three new players coming in this offseason. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Harrison doesn't have the strength that i want in my RG. Hopefully he can improve his run blocking at RT this year. Morse and Scherff are both decent in pass pro but are poor run blockers. We need lineman that can do both
Morse is 47th out of 64 centers in run blocking and there are only 32 starting centers in the league, horrendous. Scherff is 95th out of 135 Guards, there are only 64 starting guards in the league. Cleveland is 75th out of 135 guards in run blocking. We have to upgrade the C and RG to help get this run game going
Anton is 93rd out of 141 tackles in run blocking and Walker Little is 28th out of 141 in run blocking. Little is by far our best run blocker.

Dude....Little is a LT not a LG. Resigning Little didn't help the LG position. Yes, he was always saying Little is a backup and he couldn't beat out Cam and he wasn't very good. He beat out Cam, became the starter, and got an extension. (01-12-2025, 11:31 PM)Jagulars Wrote: I feel he's settling in just fine. But, I had a thought about how the new staff will evaluate the OL. If BAP is OT in this darft, I sure as heck hope we traded back for a king's ransom or we got big problems with whoever Shad settled on to lead our front office. Blank #2 it is. I like the idea of bringing a G in via day 2 pick or a trade back in the first and maybe shooting for a swing tackle later on. No idea what to figure with Foster, is he another one of those late bloomers that takes a year or two before making it on the field? Does he make it onto the field?

It's been his pattern forever, he's a high ceiling/high potential drafter. Occasionally you need a guy who is ready today even if he's maxxed out in two years. I think Tate Ratledge is that guy in the guard class, he'll be ready to go with the big boys on day 1 though he might not have the really high peak in year 3 or 4. What he becomes in year 2 might be it, but it will still be very good IMO. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
