I would rather have Saleh than Coen. I don't mind having a retread. Andy Reid is a retread.

The two Lions coordinators are probably tops on my list, then Saleh, then Spags, then Joe Brady, then Coen.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

It’s a gamble. A known mediocre versus a potential winner, or giant flop.

Thrilled - Ben Johnson

Happy - Liam Coen, Aaron Glenn, Todd Monken

Not happy but not upset - Joe Brady

Upset but not flipping a table - Robert Saleh, Brian Flores

Grab the pitchforks - Kellen Moore, Patrick Graham
This is pretty much where I'm at but I would move Coen to the thrilled category.

I think he's going to be very good. What he did this season without Godwin for 10 games, Otton for 3 and Evans for 3 was pretty awesome. He also seems to have a great personality for Jacksonville.

What I can't stand is these guys like Hays Carlyon, who goes on the radio and says if we don't get Ben Johnson, it's a total failure.  I normally like Hays Carlyon, but that is such an over-the-top statement it's way overboard.  We don't know who, out of this current crop of candidates, will turn out to be the best coach.  No one wanted Dan Campbell except the Lions.  Everyone, including me, thought he was a really weird choice.

What do we really know?  Not much.  These are all good candidates.   Here are my picks.

1) Aaron Glenn.  I don't know why.  Maybe it's because I think fixing the defense is our biggest priority.
2) Saleh.  Obviously, at this point, you can see, I want to fix the defense more than anything else.
3) Ben Johnson.  Just so everyone will be happy for a little while.  Who knows if he can be a head coach?
4) Liam Cohen.  Seems like an up and coming offensive genius, with a minimum of actual experience.

Saleh was terrible in NY.

Saleh was terrible in NY.

And Belichick was terrible in Cleveland.

Saleh had a terrible result.  But the circumstances should be considered.  Did he pick Zach Wilson?  Or did the GM?  Did he want Aaron Rodgers?  Or was it the owner?

We don't know those things. The only thing I can do is look at the results and see they were terrible.  I also give Brady a ton of credit with Belichick's success.

Makes sense because that defense actually has the talent and all-pro caliber players at each level to rebuild with faster. Again, and, we can say this about any of these hires really.

If the head coach is a defensive minded guy, you have to figure out what his offensive staff will look like. And vise versa. The defense is a massive issue here though.

The offense needs an identity. That's the most important part this off season for them. We're either going to be a run heavy team that leans on Lawrence sparingly or we're going to be a pass oriented team that leans on Lawrence heavily. Either way, we need that resolved.

Brady obviously put Belichick on the map, however, Belichick should be given more credit for his ability to identify talent on defense, coach a defense and establish an identity. Especially earlier on in Brady's career. It's not like they were scoring 30+ points in all of those Superbowl wins and they did have a healthy running game for the most part.

People forget Corey Dillion literally running that offense for them in the early 2000's for that one nice Superbowl run. If you go back and look at Belichick's defensive units though, they were typically top quality, always in the top five - ten range, he even had the number one ranked unit a few times.

Playing in a dog [BLEEP] AFC East also helped BOTH of them with their path towards success.

My point was, just because a guy is a retread, that doesn't mean he can't be a very successful coach.  Bill Belichick failed in Cleveland.  Andy Reid was fired from Philadelphia.  Saleh had a tough time with the Jets, but you have to look at the circumstances.  Just looking at the result is shallow thinking.

No argument from me there. It goes both ways though. I can see why people are wanting to avoid a retread. We tried it with Doug Pederson, we were teased and then it all came crashing down last year.

I don't think he's a bad hire at all. Wouldn't hurt my feelings. Just curious what his defensive staff would look like and whether or not he would be personally calling the offense like Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay and Andy Reid.

I just hope we didn't invite him for a 2nd interview because he's "fine with things the way they are."

Would make the most sense. He's worth a 2nd interview though. If you go back and look to when he inherited the offensive play calling duties and then you look at how the personnel has changed in Buffalo with Diggs being out of the picture. It's really hard not to be impressed with him.

He's made Josh Allen an NFL MVP candidate, he's helped get his turnovers down and he's clearly helped establish an identity up there with a penchant for running the football, moving the QB around and getting the TE position involved in the passing game.

He can do similar things here in Jacksonville. He also has a history with talented QB's like Burrow and he's worked with WR rooms at LSU that had Chase and Jefferson in it, so, we know he'll come up with a good scheme to free Brian Thomas Jr. more, AND, there's also a bit of familiarity already with Gabe Davis having worked with him up there. As well as Mitch Morse at center.

This hire really wouldn't bother me nor should it surprise anybody. As it fits a lot of the check marks that Lawrence was asking for and something Khan cited earlier when he said the offense was too predictable. This guy changes that dynamic and we'll see an emphasis on the offensive line more than likely getting beefier.

Since it became clear during the season we needed to move on from Doug I have been 1. Ben Johnson 2. Liam Coen. I would say for me a tie for third with Aaron Glenn and Joe Brady, and then after that I’d be fine with Saleh or Flores. Any of those names will be fine with me, but I really hope it’s one of Johnson, Coen, Glenn or Brady. The other two are more cautious optimism instead of excitement.

If you look at the record but there was drama he had to deal with. The defense was outstanding. I’d love to see a defense that could shut teams down and let Lawrence play with a lead most of the time. Obviously if you go this route, you have to get the right OC on board.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

I'd probably rather Brady over Coen.  It looks like we are the only team interested in Coen.  I wouldnt hate a Coen hire but he wouldn't be 2nd or 3rd in my list.

I got little hope of good change. Shad Set the tone when he decided to Keep Trent and play very dumb on what "cleaning house" meant. It will probably be some yes man who will go along with Baalke.
