He could likely get Darnold or JJ McCarthy the day after he accepts the job. Darnold ain't good but he's pretty Goffesque and we saw what Johnson did there. Or he could make a relatively minor move to get Ward or Sanders if he really wanted to. Being stuck with Baalke is infinitely worse than that.
Liam Coen is probably my 1A with Ben Johnson being my 1B.
Then Aaron Glenn. If Ben Johnson really wants Vegas then go for it. Baalke the snake will find a way to survive for a little longer but I think he’s going to be out as GM at some point. The problem with that, and what makes football so awesome, is every year is a completely clean slate. Last year people were praising Houston, Niners, Packers and this season it's Lions, Commanders and Rams. Every fan wants success and want a coaching staff to walk in and just make it happen. I don't think we need a full rebuild so I don't expect 2 to 3 seasons of 3 wins but if we go 6-11 next season but can see progress towards something I can accept it. I just don't want fans expecting a quick turnaround and being here again next offseason or the one after calling for firings. We desperately need some stability. I don't see why we can't finish with at least a .500 record next season. Besides the Loins and Bills, we lost most of our games with competitive scores. I lay a sizable portion of those losses on coaching. With low-energy Doug and his boy Press, along with smug Ryan Nielsen out of the picture, this team plays better and closes out games.

Sam Darnold will be a FA, so like any other team he'll be available, but I don't see Johnson wanting to start his HC career with him. If I had to put money on it, I still feel like Bears have a slight edge over the Jaguars. Having a new #1 QB and Odunze on rookie contracts, I feel like their defense is a bit ahead of the Jaguars, and they have plenty of cap space. But again that's just my opinion.

Can we leave the personal insults behind for a while and get back to some semblance of topic, gents? Please, and thank you.

You’re basically talking about three rookie quarterbacks...all with questions...and Darnold. Darnold has been absolutely nothing like Goff. Darnold has been bad his whole career up until this year when out of the blue he had a tremendous regular season...for the most part. But he totally [BLEEP] the bed in the regular season finale and the playoff game. Look at Goff's stats and Darnold's and tell me that they are anywhere close to similar. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I think the Bears are even less likely to fire Poles than Shad is to fire or relocate Baalke. Johnson has said HC/GM cohesion is his #1 priority so I think it's Raiders > Jaguars > Bears.
Hopefully we find out soon either way. (01-19-2025, 02:12 PM)cland Wrote: If I had to put money on it, I still feel like Bears have a slight edge over the Jaguars. I don't think we're far away from being a playoff team. We have a good bit of talent, but a few glaring holes, and our defense was totally mismanaged last year. I don't agree that Goff is much better than Darnold, but I do agree that it would basically be that or 3 essentially rookie options. Any of those is better than being chained to Baalke. Sure that's my opinion, but I think it would also be the opinion of the vast majority of the football world. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I love the flip flopping on certain coaches after the Lions game. It's 1 game! That Kid Jayden Daniels is playing like I hoped Lawrence was when we got him. The Skins (yes I still use Redskins) are a red hot team right now and Detroit ran into a buzz saw. I also believe their inexperience in having a bye week hurt them. I would not change an opinion on a coach for one game. I remember one game that Bill Belichick's Pats got Smoked by the Bills with Brady starting like 41-0 week 1 one year. The Pats went on to win the Superbowl that same year. That one game would of told me the team sucks.

I have learned with Shad it's the guy you most likely want or the consensus doesn't like is what Shad loves. The record as owner speaks for this. Despite falling short of his goal to win the Super Bowl, Dan Campbell has managed to change the culture in Detroit and I expect them to receive the Lombardi Trophy in the not too distant future. Ben Johnson is my top choice for the Jaguars, despite never having been a head coach at any level. The qualities he is known to possess include intelligence, ability to collaborate, holding his players to a very high standard and the ability to be tough when this is necessary with a player. Of course, he is best known for his creative offensive mind which has been on display the past three seasons as the Lion's offensive coordinator. If he can do for Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville what he did for Goff in Detroit, the future for the Jaguars should be bright. Of course, that depends on whether they can find a better supporting cast for Trevor- especially on the offensive line- as Campbell has done in Detroit.(01-19-2025, 11:17 AM)JagGatorMarlin904 Wrote: Yeah it’s funny, you just knew going online that the overreactions to one game were going to be flying. No one is a guarantee to be a good head coach, you could go hire an accomplished head coach like Pete Carroll or Mike McCarthy and there is no guarantee they would be successful either. People are kind of just looking past Washington, but they won 12 games, obviously drafted a hell of a rookie, Quinn is a hell of a defensive mind, Kingsbury sucks as a head coach but has always been an excellent OC. Losing this game doesn’t really have much of a bearing on wether these coordinators are good candidates, you have to look at the body of work.
