Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has warned that President Donald Trump's flagship deportation program could lead to higher food prices for Americans, leaving farms deserted. "For all of the people who cast a vote based on grocery prices and inflation, if you think your groceries are expensive now, wait until the farms are empty," she said on the "Latino USA" podcast on Sunday. Experts told Newsweek that mass deportations will hit the construction, agriculture, and hospitality industries the hardest, as well as the manufacturing and landscaping industries. Trump's mass removal policy could impose a staggering one-time cost of $315 billion on the U.S., according to the American Immigration Council. Deporting 1 million people a year could cost up to $88 billion annually. Agricultural output will fall between $30 and $60 billion if Trump's flagship policy is carried out, according to the American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC). According to Pew Research, approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants live in the U.S. The majority have no criminal record, and their circumstances differ widely, ranging from asylum seekers who crossed the border to individuals who originally entered on a tourist visa but overstayed.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said on the "Latino USA" podcast Sunday: "But let's be clear, the people who are voting in this way oftentimes don't respond to a case of compassion and humanity." "If you think houses are expensive now, wait until there's no one building them. If you think that having someone in your home to take care of your ailing mother or grandmother while you have to go out and earn an honest living while you're at work, if you think that's expensive now, wait until that immigrant workforce is gone. Understand the consequences of what this means because for America to not accept immigrants is the definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face." Rebecca Shi, Executive Director of ABIC, told Newsweek: "If mass deportations really overreach, there's going to be just serious disruptions to our economy."

AOC is typically too far to the left for my political sensibility, but in this she is absolutely correct.

Massive deportations will lead to massive product/service shortages and massive price increases.

Didn't your dear Orange Leader make a promise to the American people he would lower food prices in day 1?

Yes or no?

Only a Doof would assume that both can't be done. Guess we know why you're still trying to play Gotcha while you're losing.

All this means is more Government subsidies will be issued to the farmers. Let's face it, the Gov are really funding the farms but are simply letting farmers manage the process. The taxpayers will ultimately suffer once again. The logic of cutting subsidies, deporting cheap labor, and decreasing related prices at the grocery store doesn't work.

I'm perfectly fine with how things are. Trump and his team are outing you people and it's driving you crazy how good things are going. I just have to remember that anything good for our country pisses you off and then I laugh and laugh and laugh at you. I'll be over the [BLEEP] moon ecstatic if Ron Paul really does become Chair of the Fed, hopefully that will the one that drives you off the cliff!

The conclusion is conditioned on the (unproven) premise that the vast majority of the intended deportees are employed.

America has always accepted immigrants and will continue to do so under the Trump administration.  They just need to follow the required legal process.  Is this really so difficult for you to understand?

Lol.  You keep making the same mistakes.  I'm not pissed.  I just feel bad for you.  You know nothing about me or TDoss yet you base your political worldview around pissing us off.

And lol, Ron Paul is not going to Treasury or the Federal Reserve.  Rand neither.  Trump is a lifetime debtor.  He's not going to appoint a hard money guy to anything.  Trump would never risk deflation.  One of his few redeeming qualities, frankly.

Yep and every 10 years they say we will all be dead in 10 years. They even have charts and graphs !  This has been going on since at least 1970. So we all died and the whole world was covered in water in 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010, 2020. We should have a party in 2030, which is the next time we will all die.
