I could see this being a midterm move. Would be pretty genius. Imagine tye economic impact.

The Laffer curve is real, but In terms of marginal income tax rates we are on the left side of it pretty firmly.

If this country could relieve itself of just the payments on debt interest, it would move closer to the center. Above all else, we need to get the deficit under control. We are to the left of the peak, moreso than we were in 2017.

$5k each ---- I'll take the $10k for my wife and I.
Heck, throw in another $5k each and Vance can have my voting commitment in 2028. Throw in another $5k each and you can have my down ballot vote as well.

If tax rates remain the same, eliminating debt interest would shift the curve left. They want those interest payments and they want them high. I hope we find more real spending cuts before we cut taxes again.

There's a time and a place to put your money where your mouth is, but government ain't it. I give a lot of money to small charities, some of them local, some supporting workers I personally know. I don't get a tax break for that and it wouldn't matter if I did.

The government steals too much of our money and we have a small window here to both get some of it back and at least hamper the leviathan doing the stealing. And here you are humble bragging and concern trolling about the economy. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
If the government is going to endow us with a bonus refund then I will take it as a matter of course. What I really want is the savings and an efficient execution going forward by our government. This is actually normal for old large corporations.
There is no evil here this is just a turnaround of a failing business is all. Over the years they devolve into a collection of fiefdoms ruled by self serving middle managers (bureaucrats in government) These people start out with good intentions and become entitled as they embed into the "system". Many successful large corporations understand this and allow very few to manage a department for more than 5-7 years. Sure they will have a few PIP's (pros in position) for continuity but not a lot and certainly not the head person. They lose the mission of serving the customers believing they get to decide or know better. They resist change as that makes them uncomfortable and threatens their ultimate control. Processes degrade and become inefficient and outdated. They begin "picking" winners and losers. A good old boy system. They begin spending money in ways that does not support their mission. They begin supplying services they should not and the customers do not want. The government needs to take a lesson from this.
A new broom always sweeps clean.

And I agree that some of what Trump and Elon are doing is needed. But 1) they are going too fast and 2) they are needlessly insulting the people whose help they will need to do it right.

Ok, so did you all receive 3 Covid checks in which you simply contributed back to the national debt? I didn't receive any so I'm sure as heck not going to turn down $5k and do what I can to get another $5k. |
