Did I miss the memo?

Denver traded us Peyton Manning? What'd we give up for him? Or did the Pats trade us Brady. Belichick is pretty savvy, so I hope Caldwell at least made sure he checked to make sure it was Tom Brady, and not just a guy who looks like Tom Brady.

In any case, that only temporarily solves our QB problem. And now we have an RT problem. Poor Peyton and/or Brady. But they're the only way we can make the playoffs this year. I doubt Monroe would have helped us much in any case. Peyton's good enough to win without him and so is Brady :thumbsup:

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

No, we didn't get the good end of the deal. But you also stated that Monroe on this team for the rest of the season is better than the picks we got, which can't be further from the truth considering we'll be lucky to win a game or two.

You can say the same hypothetical about any player who has ever been traded.

What evidence do you have of this? He said its refreshing to play in Baltimore? We lose a lot?

Is Monroe the difference between 0-16 and 1-15? If so, BFD. Monroe wasn't going to sign with us after the year anyway. The only way we keep him is to franchise him and pay him top 5 money. We got something next year for the last 12 games in Monroe's Jags career.

One of these years.............

For the #2 pick n the draft, we get slightly younger at LT plus two late round picks. That's a pretty poor return on investment no matter how you want to spin it. Monroe wasn't Caldwells investment. If they weren't going to sign him, then making the trade is the only option. Of course, I don't know that answer, but based on what they did, it does not look like they were going to resign him.

And this is where your opinion starts to lose credibility. If we upgrade from 10-15 LT to top 3 LT, then it is a fantastic return on the investment. You made a major upgrade and get two picks in return.

I was disappointed when I heard he didn't shop him around. That is something I don't get.

No one knows if he was gonna walk away, no one knows if he wasn't. Thing is if he did walk away, we probably would have gotten a 4th anyway. Drafting is important but that doesn't mean your first round picks that actually work out should turn into 4th rounders 5 years later, it means that the players you hit on should become long-term fixtures. We wanna keep Poz around for the money he's making but we wanna deal a player who is actually worth it?

So much debate on basically nothing but preceived value. Value of the postion, value of Monroe at the position, value of the 12 remaining games, value of the 4th and 5th round picks, which if one turns out to be a megastar, then what? This trade simply cannot be judged at this point, and if permanent assumptions on staff are formed by this for some they are critically short sighted IMO.

It is what it is. If that was what he was worth on the market, then I can live with that, but like I said, I'm disappointed we took the first offer and didn't see what we could have received from other teams.

Well, if he did walk away, then we lost out on a 5th so... Anyways, we can play these what if games all day long, but it isn't going to do any good.

I don't think they looked at Monroe as a long term fixture. We will see if they keep Poz after this year.

Just because they were not actively shopping him does not mean that they didn't shop him after the Ravens called. How long does it take to contact possible trade partners to see if they are interested? I'll tell you to save time, not long at all. This didn't shop him mantra is ridiculous. Caldwell did not get where he is being that stupid.To think otherwise is naive IMO.

Jagwired, did you listen to Caldwell's interview? It didn't sound like he shopped him around afterwards. It sounded like Ravens called, they were serious, went back and forth and came to an agreement.

Well, I'm just basing it off information we know. Listen to the interview.

Gene Smith Jr. is a complete and utter moron and should be fired immediately. Who trades a top 10 franchise LT for nothing with five weeks of the trade deadline left to go? Oh yeah, Gene Smith Jr.

The zone blocking argument is the weakest argument of all being that when Caldwell took over the team he had a handful of players to work around. It should have been easy to build around Monroe and if he wasn't fit for zone blocking he should have never hired that bum Fisch to begin with.

Per Browns saying they didn't know Monroe was available, they called <a class="" href='https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Jaguars&src=hash'>#Jaguars</a> before trade w/ Ravens was done. Offer wasn't as good.

Yeah, I listened, did I miss the part where he said he didn't field any other offers? All I heard was that it came together quickly. If you believe that he did not you must also believe that he had a complete mental breakdown. As I said, IMO people are being completely naive if they think otherwise.
