Caldwell gambling.....

Quote:Nobody trades for running backs anyway. There is zero market.
Marshawn Lynch is the last one I can think of and that was 4 years ago.

He was only in his 4th season and went for a 4th and a conditional pick.

Good point. And he was just starting his second year and that trade has been a disaster. Another reason why teams shouldn't trade for running backs.

Couldn't?  Or, didn't want to?

Glad to see someone starting a fresh topic.

I don't know what was so difficult for you.

Bakari and Caldwell traded figures. They were miles apart. Neither moved.

Nothing to talkabout when your miles apart.

Good Luck this year Maurice, have a great Season.

Nothing else left to see here, time to move along.

Posting comments on Caldwell making a bad decision when no one knows the facts of the issue is pure speculation and is hardly worth commenting on.

So the Steelers should not have traded for Bettis, the Rams should not have traded for Marshall Faulk, and the Jets should not have traded for Curtis Martin?

There have been productive trades for players at every positions, and there have been bad trades for players at every position.

The Richardson trade was a bad one.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Martin was a free agent from what I remember. The other two trades were 15-20 years ago. The league has changed.

As an entertainment product, MJD was a significant face to the franchise a couple years ago, especially after winning the rushing title.  Yes, he was on the decline, having lost a step even then, but was productive, personable, and marketable.  If Gene had traded him for something like a 4th round pick, I think the season ticketholders and fanbase would have had a negative reaction.  If I was the GM, a trade would have made sense.  However, if I was the owner, getting a couple more marketing years out of MJD, the face of the franchise, may have been more valuable to my product than a late draft pick.

I forgot about that one, but that trade happened so early in his career it was almost like they drafted him.

I'm ok with letting MoJo go as he has over 2,000 carries and receptions to his name (a lot of wear and tear to the body).   The other options could have been Knowshon @ $3m or Lagarette Blount @ $2m

It's like we just went out and bought at 50" LCD TV for $3,000 on Day1 and are now watching the prices drop down to $1,000.

I stand corrected on Martin.  He was a restricted FA, and the Jets gave up a 1 and a 3 to the Patriots as compensation.

The league has changed, but the dynamic is still the same.

If there is a player you think can help you more than anyone in the draft, and the price is acceptable, you pull the trigger on a deal if both parties are so inclined.

That still includes RB, but you still have to be smart about it.

You still have to evaluate the player properly, make sure he fits your schemes, etc.

There may be a market for young RBs, but not for older ones.

No one is going to take over a contract and give anything close to a third for a RB in his 7th season.

Agreed, but under that rationale, the Colts deal for Richardson made sense.

I think it's a case of two teams (Cleveland and Indy) misevaluating the talent.

Did you see him play like garbage last year?

I like how some people act like the only reason MJD struggled last year was because of the offensive line. It was pretty clear that he is done. Unless there is Doc Brown's Delorean hidden somewhere in Oakland, I would not expect much from him at all. Gerhart is going to post much better numbers.

As much as it would have been nice to be the train that MJD rode around on his farewell tour, I think he has other ideas... for now.
