Cleveland matches Jags offer for Mack

Quote:Actually wouldn't that be irrelevant? Mack can't "choose" to turn down the Cleveland offer and instead decide to play here if Cleve matches the Jacksonville offer.
But he can tell Cle. he dont want to play for them anymore.  If he does I doubt they will match the offer

M & M (Mack & Manziel)  Whoooooooooo!

It's just another opportunity to sweeten the deal to assure he signs the offer sheet.

How that offer sheet is structured will dictate Cleveland's response, and I think it's better than even odds that they won't match it.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:EXAAAAAAAAAACTLY! IMO...What did Mack do for Cle? they suck...just like us. dont waste MILLIONS on a center. We need SKILLS positions. i HATE this signing. i hope we dont get him. I would rather that money go towards other important pieces

You put your money in both lines of scrimmage and the add skill positions idk what is so hard to understand about that... Not being a bad word but without a solid o line what good are the weapons outside or in the backfield going to do

You've got a real gift for setting new standards in cluelessness.

Bring him!!!

Quote:I have mixed feelings about this.  On the one hand, it would be great to have arguably the best center in football in his prime locked up for five years.  On the other hand, he's just a center.  We're not talking QB, LT, DE or CB here.  Not exactly a crucial position but of course we don't really have a center on the roster currently.  At the end of the day, I want the Jags to sign him but if they break the bank to sign this guy, I think it's a bit reckless financially.  Ideally you want to lock up players to big contracts in key positions I mentioned before.  Centers can be found in the draft for much cheaper and the difference between an Alex Mack and a rookie in the draft could be negligible.

I disagree somewhat. I think a Center like Mack might be less important if say we already had an established top notch OL here, or if say we had an established top notch QB already here. We have neither at this point. I think Mack's presence could be vital for a young, developing signal caller. He'll also be a stabilizing force for an OL that is trying to come together. We might have to pay a bit more than we'd like, but it also easily could be well worth it, and help in area that you can't put a price on.

Give the man his money and book him a first class ticket.. He's the type of rock center foundation this offense needs..

It also helps that we can afford to overpay him a bit and not have it affect any future signings due to our great cap situation.

Hold on, wait for it... we can do both. What is it with people who think if you do one thing you can't do another???

Also, what does them sucking have to do with signing a really good player. Josh Gordon and Joe Haden play for them as well. But they must suck because cleveland sucks? Is that really how you think?

there's my stalker. I'm clueless because in MY opinion...i'd rather have that money go elsewhere. and you're a GENIUS because in YOUR opinion...you love the move? got it. no one can have opinions about the jags except you. No room for debate. GROW UP, MAN!

When we inevitably lose Marcedes Lewis we can pay for Mack's contract with that alone. How much does that man get paid?

Quote:But he can tell Cle. he dont want to play for them anymore.  If he does I doubt they will match the offer

I don't think Cleveland will care about Mack saying he "doesn't want to play there". I also don't envision Mack continuing with that rhetoric of not wanting ot play in Cleveland if they match the offer. Like any athlete he'll probably just claim he was taken out of context or something and he's happy to play there.

Also this situation played out similarly a year ago when the Philadelphia Flyers signed Defenceman Shea Weber to a deal that was constructed in a way that the Flyers thought Nashville would never be able to match.....Weber allegedly was making similar claims like Mack that he didn't want to play in his current city and wanted to sign with his new team....the 5 days passed and in the end Nashville surprisingly matched the offer. When they did, Weber publicly claimed he was "happy" to be staying with Nashville...

So, the moral being....I wouldn't expect any Mack alleged rhetoric about not wanting to play in Cleveland amounting to a whole lot or swaying the Browns to just let him leave.

If we get him and

And next year when we cut Poz and Lewis it will be about another 18 mill in cap space off the books

im not big on linemen like that. i know the Center and LT are the positions you want the smart guys at. the best guys. but i've never been big on putting too much money and effort into them. not when we have as many needs as WE do. thats all im saying.

Both? That's just crazy talk.

Thats a good point. And Marcedes could be replaced MUCH cheaper as soon as this upcoming draft.

Please, tell us where. Where do you want this money to go?

Mack will be a pro regardless of whether he plays here or in Cleveland.

I'm very happy to see us go after a proven elite Center when Center is a huge need.

If we don't end up landing him, it's not because we sat on our hands.

So tell us where you want to spend the money. Who is out there right now in free agency?
