If Gene Smith was picking at 3?

#41

Quote:Gene never drafted small school in the first round, he did that in 2-7. As others said he would've went "safe" in the 1st. My guess would be Jake Matthews.

Since when was Tyson Alualu "safe"

I think Khalil Mack, Aaron Donald, or Blake Bortles would be his choice.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Quote:The miss on Gabbert gets amplified because he's a QB that we traded up to get.

That's why all this is silly. GS never traded DOWN for players nor did he take small school guys in the first.

Quote:If you think about it, Gene's only real whiff in the first round is Gabbert.

Monroe was a solid pick.

Alualu hasn't played up to draft pick, but has been a solid pro.

Blackmon is a beast when he's actually playing.

Ha.  Alualu is garbage.

Alualu was a terrible pick and everybody knew it then and now, he was a top ten pick being a solid pro plz he is a bust.

Its one thing if he was projected to go there but he was not, he was a late 1st early 2nd round player chosen in the top 10

But as has been said Gene butchered the rest of the draft even more then the 1st round

Re: Alualu and Blackmon, how are a mediocre DT/DE and a WR who's spent more time suspended than he has on the field not failed top ten picks?

Likewise, the miss on Gabbert isn't amplified by the trade up. It's amplified by the fact that he blew a top ten pick on a QB who developed from a below-average QB to one of the worst in the game, a guy who would struggle to start on some CFL teams.

Quote:If Gene Smith was drafting at pick 3 in this years draft who would he pick? I personally think he would draft the LB Mack, small school thing..lol
Does it matter? He won't pick anyone for the Jags again. Is it easier to live in the past than to put some actual thought into what will really happen?

In my humble opinion, this does not belong in this sub-forum. Maybe somewhere where fantasy worlds are discussed would be more appropriate..

On the subject though, you just know he would [BLEEP] it up.

We need a "who would Shack Harris pick" thread to keep things fair.

Kelvin Benjamin at 3.

Gene would pick Jake Matthews. He would not even blink while calling the pick in to our reps in New York on draft day. Also, he would not even think about any other high profiles players. In his eyes, there backgrounds have to many red flags. Matthews Blood line alone would have him watering at the mouth.

Quote:Like Blackmon right?

Now, you know that was a last ditch effort by Gene to save his job by drafting a “non” Gene Smith guy? … In hopes that doing the opposite of what “Gene Smith” would do would ultimately prove him right all along.

Right?

We should hire Gene as a position coach. That's what smart GM's would do.

We should just do whatever Tom Coughlin would've done in the first round. That seemed to work ok.

He'd take bridgewater or bortles after cutting Gabbert.

We'd take Connor Shaw with the 3rd pick

If Gene were picking, I think it'd be either Bridgewater or Mack.

If Gene Smith was still here, Gabbert would still be looking to prove himself as the Jaguars starter, and Gene Smith would be avoiding a QB in the draft at all cost.

IF? If the team drafted Aaron Rodgers instead. T.Suggs..Big Ben..and on and on. What if WW was still owner? What if they kept TC?

Hindsight GMs are a dime a dozen. So are foresight predictors and would, coulda TMD types.
