Sports writers are a rare breed.  A lot of them remind me of people with low self esteem who are constantly looking for approval.  Too often I read articles with attempts at humor (I guess so people will say their funny?) that just fall flat.  Profootballtalk is really guilty of this.  I laugh at about 1 out of 10 of their jokes (regarding the Jags or any team for that matter.)

I didn't realize we played the Titans week 1.  Must've been really drunk, I swear they were wearing red uniforms.

 

He must have gotten years mixed up because several times Tennessee was our first opponent. And he definitely did not watch the Chiefs game.

 

You could have written the same article in 1992 about the Patriots.

 

How bad were the Patriots that year?

IIRC, the Patriots were 1-15 under Rod Rust that year. This was just prior to the Parcells/Bledsoe years and was at the tail end of the Steve Grogan years.

 

Remember, they were actually in the 85 Super Bowl, losing to da Bears 46-10 (which was an improvement over their previous appearance in a Championship game, the 1963 AFL Championship, when they lost to Lance Alworth, Keith Lincoln and the San Diego Chargers 51-10.

That was my first thought. Then I read the article. He's nobody.

Ironically, about a month ago Simmons picked us to go 6-10 and called the Jags "sneaky good" in his podcast. But don't worry - he'll have one of his minions take that down from his site and pretend he never said it in the first place.

The Jags have been outscored 31-129 in their first four games. They have scored only 8 points in the 1st half of four games, two on a blocked punt.


 

Even the 1976 Bucs managed to score NINE points in the first half of their first four games.


 

The 2008 Lions were outscored 68-147 in their first four games, 20 points in the first half.


The 1998 Saints won three of their first four games. ???


The 2012 Browns were within a TD in three of their four losses starting out in 2012.


The 2012 Bills were 2-2 after four games. ???


 

... and we lost to the Raiders this year, in spite of them going through an even more extreme roster rebuild, and with no cap room to boot.


 

The Jags are historically bad. And our GM just traded our best player (plus an additional $2M) for a bag of beans.

Ok, so I might have been off on the exact -years- for some of those teams, but you missed the larger point - those teams had a pretty long success drought too. 

 

I also disagree with Monroe being our best player. I don't even think he was our best OLT. Now, I do agree that I was disappointed in the return on the trade & that the whole situation was mismanaged. Monroe probably should have instead been shopped at the draft weekend. .

 

Blackmon is IMO - clearly the best player we have.

While I want to agree so badly, something makes me look. References to being hung upside down while one's scrotum is electrocuted is just too much to pass up.

I know we just spent more than 3,000 words explaining why the 2013 Jags are hopeless. But I can't lay this many points with Sam Bradford unless you're holding me upside down and electrocuting my scrotum … and even then, I'd probably fight you off for a solid hour.


News flash: It's not insane to take historically bad teams once the spreads shift against them to the point that it becomes ridiculous.
The 2008 Lions
went 0-16 but 7-9 against the spread, playing four straight single-digit games from Week 6 through Week 9. The pathetic 1990 Pats lost a Week 7 game by seven points in Miami to a 12-4 Dolphins team. The secretly egregious 2010 Panthers (2-14, blown out 10 times) nearly won in New Orleans in Week 4 and beat San Francisco in Week 7. The list goes on and on. Historically bad teams usually make a couple runs in October before rolling over and playing dead. And again, you can't lay this many points with SAM BRADFORD. Come on.
