We Don't Need Sammy Watkins

Quote:As a rookie? I doubt it. Not with Henne under center.

To the topic at hand, because we know we're at least a year away from really turning the page with the offense, the plan has to be to make the Jags defense a stout unit that will keep us in games, so you go for the elite pass rusher. We need to impact the quarterback, and we need to do it far more often than we have in the past. We can get by with the receivers we have, and if Blackmon manages to stay on the field and keep his nose clean, we'll be even better.
in my mind, pass rusher is in this same boat. if pass rusher is going to work out the best long term, fine. too often we select rookies assuming they will be the exception. just pick a player at 3 you believe will turn into a stud at some point. if it's Watkins, cool. if it's clowney, cooler. more than likely the defense will be a bit more stout considering the depth we have added. on the other hand, they will tire out regardless if the offense fails to stay on the field consistently. i expect us to run more often this year to protect the D and keep the games close. we should be able to get about four future starters and considerable depth.

Quote:Ace is a slot receiver. Blackmon is a dumbie, and Shorts can't play an entire season. We don't NEED Sammy, but we do need an outside receiver or two
two years ago shorts played an entire season didn't he? and kudos to him this year for playing through a groin injury all year

And he tweeted about a month ago saying it's the first time he's been 100% healthy in about a year and he feels great so there's that.

Quote:I still can't process the logic of using Ace Sanders as a reason not to draft Watkins.

Maybe it was a joke

Quote:We have Ace Sanders I see Ace progressing this year as a even better wide out, than last year. You get a decent Qb, and have a decent playbook I think this guy can be dangerous like Watkins. If you haven't notice the coaches are trusting him more as a receiver than a PR/KR I would have done the same if I saw this guy taking the initiative to develop as a WR. With the speed he has and the leaping ability to catch the football despite his height , and don't let me forget to mention those hands . This guy is Unbelievable. Cant wait till Regular Season New Qb(Hopefully)  ,New O line  ,New D line , Fresh Start.
LOL.  That is kind of like saying, "we don't need a QB, we have Henne."

Ace Sanders was used as much as he was at WR last year out of necessity due to Blackmon's suspension and injuries to Shorts.  Don't get me wrong, I like Sanders (even mocked him to the Jags last year), and he has his place on the team, but he is no where near what Watkins would bring to this team.

Yes, I really like Sanders too but not as a number 1. I think he can be very effective at #3 or #4. If Shorts can stay healthy for one whole season (and he may if he isn't getting all the attention), and Blackmon can stay sober and play the #2 receiver, Watkins can really stretch the field. We NEED to be able to do this to open things up underneath and for the running. It's pretty simple.

Yeah let's not make the same mistake with Sanders that we did with Thomas.. he's no outside #1 guy.

I believe in Shorts, he's my favorite player on the team right now. Give him a QB and he has a chance to be something special.

The Jags just need to be as sure as they can be that the WR they choose will be a productive NFL WR.

While I am not really for drafting a WR at #3, especially in this deep WR draft, the Jags have had such bad luck picking WR's in the early rounds just too many times.

Here's to hoping their WR luck changes this year.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

REALLY 93???

Sanders isnt within tha same category as Watkins. YES Sanders has plenty of talent and he'll be an awesome change up receiver, but Watkins is Above and Beyond. Actually Watkins is an speedier B14CKMON... Both play w/attitude and are tremendiously physical. Sanders play w/finesse.

They're Not within the same Catagory to say the least...

Doubt that. There are so many excellent recievers in this draft and with Johnson you really dont need to give up a bunch of picks to complement him. Detroit drafts at 10. There will be alot of quality recievers at 10 left.

I hope Caldwell is smart enough to NOT draft a WR at number three. Honestly, who really believes this actually an option?

I disagree every team needs a Sammy Watkins based on what I've seen so far of his performance.  The WR depth in this draft is good but very few are as promising as Sammy Watkins.  That being said I want them to draft Clowney, or Mack one of them will be there at 3.

Although WR is deep in this year's class, most of the good ones will be gone by the time we pick at 39, and we will be pretty much left with "just guys" when we pick in round 3.

The offense we have right now is pretty much the worst in the league, talent wise.

Nobody has the ability to go deep or go the distance, from any position.

We need a player like Sammy Watkins.  You will effectively neutralize any pass rusher you draft if you're behind in every game early on, like we are.  We can't put up any points with this offense.  Having Clowney or Mack won't help that much when on the other side of the ball we have Henne throwing it to Mike Brown and Cecil Shorts with Gerhart running behind a weak offensive line.

Get Watkins, put some points on the board.
