New York Times article on Jameis Winston

#81

Quote:Thats what was on the police report.  She had reported to others 6'2.  When she had her urine and blood taken, it was sitting around for a month and a half before it was even sent to the lab.  The police totally botched it.

She didnt identify him right away.  A month or so later she went back to the cops and said she figured out who it was.  Which to me is odd.  If she is lying this whole time and the sex was consensual, whats the motivation to call some rape crisis hotline, then go report the rape to the cops, but pretend like you dont know who the guy is?  And then a month later decide to go back to the cops and say she figured it out who it was?  If she was completely coherent, she would have known who it was, so why not report it to the cops then?

There's no problem with her identification.   They matched his DNA to the semen on her underwear.   That pretty much clinches the identification.

No it wasn't. She was taken to the hospital that night and full blood work and a rape kit were done.

Not according to the conversation the state attorney had with the accuser's attorney.  Apparently it wasnt taken to the lab until a month and a half later.

My question with the identification is if she was lying.  If she was lying about being raped, then it was consensual.  So she either knew it was Winston or it was a random hookup with a total stranger.  Either way she reported the rape to the cops and said she didnt know who it was.  If she knew it was Winston, why tell the cops she couldnt recognize the person?  Winston defenders keep saying she was just looking to get back at him or make a name for herself.  If it was a hookup with a random stranger, whats the motivation to report the rape then?  To get some random guy she doesnt know in trouble?

If its all a big lie, I dont understand the reasoning behind reporting a rape and telling the cops she doesnt know who it was.  And then a month later going back to the cops and saying Ah-ha, I do know who it was.

The official FSU response:

http://www.tomahawknation.com/2014/4/16/...is-winston

For those that don't want to plow through the PC speak, FSU's programs for rape victims involve confidentiality between counseler and victim that can only be breached at the victim's say-so. So they had not heard of any previous complaint. Also, the statistics are misleading in that 83% of students live off campus where rapes are investigated by TPD while still potentially being provided counseling by the university. So they aren't underreporting rapes on campus despite that allegation.

Everything else seems to be the usual "of course we care, we care so much, look how much we care," that comes out from every school when something bad happens on campus.

Quote:I've made my stance very clear. I do not know what happened. I said if he is guilty then I hope he goes to jail. My mind was never made up and it still isn't because I do not know what happened. There are obviously questionable things. And again, that goes for both sides.

I'm pretty sure you said she was a woman scorned because they had a relationship and she was mad that his girlfriend was coming to town...

It's funny...in all your versions of what might have happened...you never seem to come up with one that has him doing it. In all your "what ifs" she's always the bad guy.

"Allegedly", raped isn't being raped. You can believe either side of the story you wish as it's your right to do so.. But in the eyes of the law, the law stated that no rape occurred..

I was reporting information that came out. And that is still a possibility.

Probably because of posters like badger. Do I want to believe it's not true? Of course. Do I have a rooting interest for it not to be true? Of course. But there are serious allegations that the case was mishandled. If there is truth that is being hidden then I want it uncovered. Jameis still has not been charged with anything. And we are still at he said/she said.

I don't get how a couple troll posts means now I'm unable to criticize FSU for a cover up. But whatever, my opinion doesn't change the fact that they drug their feet to get to the bottom of this. It's obvious that this case was heavily influenced by the success the team was having, and that's just sad.

That season for FSU is now forever tainted whether you like it or not.

But now it's he said/she said/she said.   There is a second woman with an interesting story.   It was in the article:

"A month before the rape accusation became public, the university’s victim advocate learned that a second woman had sought counseling after a sexual encounter with Mr. Winston, according to the prosecutor’s office. The woman did not call it rape — she did not say “no.” But the encounter, not previously reported, “was of such a nature that she felt violated or felt that she needed to seek some type of counseling for her emotions about the experience,” according to Georgia Cappleman, the chief assistant state attorney, who said she had spoken with the advocate but not with the woman."

Now, that does sound like a third-hand story, but nonetheless, it would interest me enough to wonder if they are going to find out something that will make him undraftable.

And a final note. It is a sad situation no matter what. Jameis will be guilty in the mind of many even if he is not and this girl will be guilty of false rape in the mind of many whether she is guilty or not. I think we need to all keep some perspective on this, football rivalries aside and we all have probably lost some perspective, me included. There are no winners, there are only losers and this will hang over Jameis and this girls head for the rest of their lives. Who cares if it taints FSU? The only good that can come out of this is to learn from it. Alright, that is my serious post of the week.

What does that even mean? We would need more to the story then that.

That's fine. Im the bad guy.

I'm clearly the reason people immediately jump to the defense of their favorite football stars no matter the accusation.
