Rasheen re-signs in Detroit
|
Rasheen and his hair will have another year of work in Detroit.. Unbelievably, he was considered the Lions top cover corner last season... Last I saw him in a Jags uniform, he couldn't cover anybody...
I a much happier with the Jags secondary these days all pointing up!!! D We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Doug, I think the reason why Rashean Mathis struggled in his final season with the Jaguars is he wasn't fully recovered from the torn ACL injury. Often, it takes that extra year for a player to regain the skills he had prior to the injury or at least come close to that level. As a player gets older, it usually takes longer to overcome an injury.
For the Lions, re-signing Rashean Mathis makes a great amount of sense. Even if Mathis isn't called upon to start or play in nickel Defenses as the primary option, he's a mentor for young CB's on the team such as Darius Slay, Bill Bentley, Jonte' Green, and Chris Greenwood. Combining that with Mathis being able to contribute outside, in the slot, and at Safety, as long as age doesn't catch up to him in 2014, Mathis can save a Game Day roster spot.
Okay...I thought you meant that he resigned...as in left his job on his own accord.
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???
Yeah, I thought I was about to read he retired, not re-signed.
Glad to hear he'll remain in the NFL (assuming he makes the team, which I assume he will.) He and I went to the same high school (Englewood) and he was always a very good, and classy, Jaguar. Good luck to him.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Good depth and experience for Detroit.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

How did Slay perform last year?
Respect the game. Play with a sense of urgency.
1.) Take care of the ball. Win the turnover battle. 2.) It's all about 3rd down. Win on 3rd down to win the game. 3.) Playmakers make plays. The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays. Learn from the great collapse of 2023.

Quote:How did Slay perform last year? Darius Slay had major growing pains as a rookie. He had a knee procedure back in May, which cost him plenty of off-season practice reps. Being that Slay is a former JUCO player who primarily played man to man coverage with Mississippi St., it was a difficult adjustment to the NFL for Slay. Slay was benched during both the 1st and 2nd games of the season. With Rashean Mathis stabilizing the RCB position and then taking over as the starter. Slay came off the bench in a few games and played better than he did as a starter. But it wasn't until Thanksgiving Day that Slay had another opportunity to start. This time as a result of an injury to Chris Houston. Slay had his best game in a one sided Lions victory. Unfortunately, Slay hurt his knee leading up to the game at Philadelphia. It cost him 3 more games. Slay came back for the season finale in Minnesota and played well. I'm encouaged by the improvement and former NFL great CB-S Rod Woodson taking Slay under his wings. But there's still a long road ahead for Slay in his development. The good news is the talent and desire are there. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.
Inless DET trades up. Justin Gilbert should be the pick at #10.
