Russell Allen Released

#21

Seems like his concussion from last season may have some effect on him failing his physcial.  Sucks, I hate to see Russell go.

Interesting.

I thought they would hold onto him for depth since he's capable of filling in at all 3 linebacker spots. I guess they figured his salary wouldn't warrant back up duties.

Edit: I see now its from possible lingering concussion issues.

Yeah, I like Allen a good depth player.  I think the chances we get Mack or Van Noy just went up.  If Clowney is gone and Dave dont like Manziel I hope we can trade back a few spots get a extra 2nd and get Mike Evans and Van Noy in the 2nd.

Makes sense. a 2.5M cap hit for him is absurd.

To me, the depth chart as of now is WILL: Hayes MIKE: Poz/Reynalds SAM: Watson/Lotuleilei

Out with the old and slow in with the speed and youth.

Hopeful Trading Back... Allen was an solid LB but he was also vulnerable within certain situations. His release solidifies the Upgrading of our team to say the least...

In Caldwell No Fuss...

I wish Allen the best.  He was a blue collar player.  That being said, it will be interesting to see who gets cut as the team gets better.

Quote:I think Allen played weakside linebacker while Dakoda is actually a strong side backer, if I'm not mistaken.

edit: not that Dakoda couldn't play one side or the other i suppose...
Correct. Different positions, different responsibilities.

Could mean they are going after Mack or could just be a simple release. Will see.

not surprised he's upgradable.

Khalil Mack has nothing to do with Russell Allen. Allen was an expensive backup who didn't fit the system. That is all.

Khalil Mack wouldn't even be playing Allen's position... Bradley already came out and said he views Mack as a Leo.

He said that but he wont come in and take Clemons starting spot.  I bet Gus plays him all over the place.  I think he would start OLB, have Leo packages, multiple blizting packages from all over.  I think Gus would get creative with Mack.

Overachiever who made a good bit of money by exceeding what was expected of him. He was a good story, but one that needed to end if the Jags are going to take that next step.

Thanks for your good play and hard work Russell. Best of luck to you.

All of you saying "Welcome Khalil Mack" do realise Mack is a pass rusher right? He wouldn't play LB for us we're not a 3-4 defense. He'd in the LEO spot.
