I rolled on the floor laughing, With all those missed reads in the pocket Manziel had to improvise. If he had just stuck to the play book (or just be Teddy Bridgewater) A&M would have been in the National Title hunt late

Quote:Well said. Would you rather a Russell Wilson with a complete roster or Aaron Rodgers with many holes all over? I tend to think The former is the way to go.

But when do you decide to swing for the fence for one qb?

I'd rather have an all around good roster than a roster relying heavily on  one person. We saw what happened to Green Bay last season, and how bad they were without Rodgers.

If Wilson got hurt, Seattle still has a top 5 defense and running game, something that'd really help a backup QB.

I'd start swinging for the fence when it's clear that the efforts of the team are being held back by the QB(s), assuming the surrounding players are good.

This I do agree with. Looking at how many player have failed in previous years, there were to many factors to attribute to just saying they were not good. Bad line play, zero offensive play makers, non-existent defense etc..... A well rounded team may make the difference. That 3rd round qb may be a star on a loaded team where that 1st round qb is terrible on a awful team.

It's a tough choice !  My first instinct would be to trade back late into the first round to grab one of the "better" QBs (sacrificing a pick or two later in the draft) to go with our number three pick.

But then I ask myself - would I rather have have Carr/Bridgwater or Mettenberger/McCarron plus a fourth rounder ?

Luckily, nobody pays me to make these decisions !

Quote:You draft a QB when you find one, regardless of whether you're in year 1, 2, 3, or 10 of a rebuild.
But how do you know you have "found" one unless you draft them?

Gene Sith thought he found Gabbert.

Gene Sith didn't think he found one in Russell Wilson, even though he did and didn't know it.  He didn't draft him.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Pretty much.  You think you have a franchise QB?  You find a way to get him.

I think it's a bit silly to ask "Get the QB or build the roster?"

The answer is simple.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

A QB is only 1 draft pick out of 11 such a stupid question.

This question is not in relation to this years draft, this question is based on just the initial building process of a roster.

Also may help to actually think about the initial post before saying "this is a stupid question"

I've been pondering this as well. I'll probably get ripped for this opinion but Chad Henne isn't that bad of a quarterback. He was noticeably better than Gabbert last year.

I'm not completely sold that any of these qb's are sure things. I'd build the parts around Henne and get a qb to develop in the later rounds.

Really, the choice comes down to Mack or Watkins at 3. I'd be really tempted to trade back a few spots if I could get an extra 2nd and 4th rd pick. This is a deep draft, I'd like to see them plug several holes if possible.

They need to add o-line and receivers early and bpa on defense.

Thoughts?

Pick 3 I hope is either, Mack, Clowney or Watkins and then i'd love to see us get aggressive and jump ahead of Cleveland in the lower part of the 1st if Carr happens to still be there.

Need to get the QB. Then also try to find the players that will back him up. And support him. The QB is THE MAN though!

I hope they trade down a little bit and can get a few picks and still get Teddy in mid to late round one....

It might be smoke, but everything I've read and heard up until now I would be shocked if the Jaguars dont draft Clowney at 3 (if he's still there) or Mack at 3 (which is a bit high for him but its a huge need).

This is not the QB year for a draft.  Dont get me wrong a lot of great hopefuls (potentials) but nothing that solid that you can say this guy is going to be a great QB.  I mean from what Ive seen I would be happiest with Johnny Football but i have enough questions in my head (as a nobody) that i wouldnt draft him at 3 overall, nor could you guarantee he'll be there if you trade down.

I am confident in Clowney or Mack if Clowney is taken to be a good /great starter and either player upgrades your team the moment you take him without any doubt from almost anyone you ask.  Thats the kind of security (safe pick) you want at #3.  I wouldnt be shocked if Robinson or Matthews was drafted as a great OT is always safe in the top 5.
